July 4th Fireworks Celebration This Friday, July 4th, the City will celebrate our country's independence with a spectacular fireworks celebration! The show will start at approximately 9:15 PM over Front Beach. The tide will be high, meaning that space on the beach will be limited. Please come early and be patient as you leave the island. Remember that individual fireworks are prohibited on the Isle of Palms. |
Beach Signs Explain New Debris Ordinance At its June 24th meeting, City Council unanimously passed Ordinance 2008-03, which prohibits "abandonment of personal property on the beach and leaving the beach in an unsafe condition." The intent of the ordinance is to keep Isle of Palms beaches clean and safe. The ordinance makes it unlawful to leave any trash or personal property on the beach unless it is deposited in a trash receptacle. It also prohibits items such as tents, chairs and umbrellas left on the beach after sunset unless attended by the user. Any items left on the beach overnight, with the exception of "Hobie Cat" style sailboats, may be disposed of by the City. No personal property may be within twenty-five feet of an emergency beach access or any turtle nest. The City has installed new signs at all beach access paths that explain beach rules. |
