Marina Market Opens at Isle of Palms Marina

The City is proud to partner with the Marina Market, a new store located at the Isle of Palms Marina. The remodeled store features a beautiful new interior, including a comfortable seating area arranged around a flat screen television. Shoppers will find bait, tackle, ice, boating supplies, snacks, drinks and unique local items. The store is open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. everyday. Watch for a deli with a breakfast bar to open in Spring 2008.

The Front Beach area is a favorite gathering spot on the Isle of Palms. Folks strolling Ocean Boulevard will find a picture kiosk filled with fun snapshots of City happenings. See if you might find yourself in the photos! 
 
 
Recreation Center Gym Closes Temporarily
Construction is scheduled to begin in April on a new ceiling for the Recreation Center gymnasium. The ensure everyone's safety, the gym will be closed as necessary during construction. Please call the Recreation Department at 886-8294 if you have any questions about the locations of events or the status of the gym.

City Council Meeting Highlights 

City Council, chaired by Mayor F. Michael Sottile, held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. The following are highlights of actions taken at the meeting. Complete minutes will be posted on the City's website once they are approved. The Mayor took the opportunity to thank island resident Jeff Jacobs for his contributions to the development of the City's E-Newsletter. A motion passed from the Public Safety Committee to allow a resident Eagle Scout to proceed with a project to place benches along certain beach access paths. A motion passed from the Public Safety Committee to expand the area of the beach to be lifegaurded with the consent of the affected parties. First readings of Ordinances 2008-02 and 2008-03 were approved. A Resolution to approve the City's application for state funding for beach renourishment was approved. An action occured that reaffirmed and clarified the City's total financial commitment to the beach renourishment project at $1,900,000. A motion passed to request that the Planning Commission examine the issue of requiring sprinklers in houses 3,500 square feet or larger.
 
Isle of Palms Police Department Earns Third Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) certified the Isle of Palms Police Department with a third accreditation at its conference in March. First achieved in 2002, this honor is the culmination of nine years' work, during which the IOPPD maintained exceptional standards of policy, service and professional excellence. Mayor Sottile, Marty Bettelli and Ryan Buckhannon, members of the Public Safety Committee, along with City Administrator Linda Tucker, the Police Chief and members of the department responded to queries from the Commission as a final step in the process. Congratulations!
 
Litter BarrelPublic Works Gears Up for the Season

The City of Isle of Palms Public Works Department is ready to meet the increased needs of both residents and visitors as the busy beach season approaches. Beginning on Monday, May 5, 2008, garbage will be collected twice per week. Check the Garbage/Trash Schedule to determine which days Public Works will attend to your residence.

All around the island, you will find bright yellow litter barrels painted with Palm trees thanks to the Garden Club and their volunteers. Thank you for using the litter barrels to keep the Isle of Palms beautiful.
