Take Fire Prevention Steps Now! Have you felt that chill in the air? Many of us are turning on our heating systems for the first time this season, so now is the perfect time to make sure you are doing everything possible to prevent a fire in your home. This year's fire prevention slogan is "Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries." As you remember to turn your clocks back one hour on November 4th, remember to change the batteries in your smoke detector.
If you live on the Isle of Palms, the Isle of Palms Fire Department will test your smoke detector and change the battery if needed. Contact them at IOPFD601@aol.com to schedule your appointment or if you have questions about fire safety. Also, have your chimney inspected before you use it. Check that your electrical system is in good working order. Clear debris from around your home. Ensure that you can open your doors and windows in case you need to evacuate, and make sure you have an evacuation plan. Click here for more information about the Isle of Palms Fire Deparment. |
City Council Meeting Highlights The following are highlights of the October 23, 2007 City Council Meeting, chaired by Mayor F. Michael Sottile. Official minutes will be prepared and considered for approval at the November 27 meeting. Click here for an archive of approved minutes and recent agendas.
City Council heard a presentation from Larry Finney of Green, Finney and Horton, LLP, Certified Public Accountants. The presentation offered preliminary findings of the City's annual audit, which show that the City's General Fund finished the fiscal year under budget. City Council also heard reports from all standing committees. The Ways and Means report included the following motions, all of which were passed by Council: approval to move Fiscal 2006-2007 Surplus to the Capital Projects Fund, approval to renew for five (5) years the contract for beach trash pickup with Schupp Enterprises as a sole source provider, and approval for the commitment to Charleston County to switch to digital radios between May 16 and July 31, 2008. Council also approved the first reading of two ordinances: Ordinance 2007-18, an Ordinance to raise revenue by establishing a property tax millage rate for the City of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2007 and ending June 30, 2008, and Ordinance 2007-19, an Ordinance authorizing the leasing of one (1) Mack Garbage Truck GU713. |
