7 Christmas Giveaways: Win A Free Product Each Day This Week, Starting Today!

lip linersToo good to be true?  Not at all!  For the next seven days (starting today) My Earth will be giving away one product per day via our Facebook page.

Here's how it will work: we will post a random question on Facebook and ask our fans to share their thoughts (don't worry this is not a test).  Our favourite response out of the first 10 will win the prize.

It's really that simple!

So isn't this good news for all you lovely Facebook fans out there.  Not already a fan?  Click on the link below to check out our page.

Oh, and the first giveaway prize will be a Raspberry Lip Liner.

Ten Tips for an Eco-Friendly Christmas

Here are Neco's top ten tips for a sustainable festive season:

1. Turn off those fairy lights
They look beautiful, but they do use a bit of juice! Make sure you switch them off when leaving the house. And if you're buying new lights, make sure they're LEDs.

2. Recycle those Christmas cards
If you send Christmas cards, make sure they're the recycled paper variety. Or better still, cut up those old Christmas cards you received last year and recycle them into unique creations of your own! Or even better still, send an email card!

3. Recycle wrapping paper and packaging
Make use of all that once-used wrapping paper next year. And don't forget to dispose of any needless packaging that comes with your gift in a considerate way.

4. Choose a renewable Christmas tree
There are pros and cons to having a "real" Christmas tree. On the pro side, your tree is a renewable resource (in that you can grow another one) and it's got to be better than a plastic tree with high embodied energy and low amounts of recycled content.

5. Think rechargeable batteries
Lots of gifts and gadgets require batteries. Power them with the gift that keeps in giving - rechargeable batteries. Your local landfill will love you for it!

6. Eat Organic
There is nothing better than Christmas lunch or dinner. To make it that little bit more eco (and healthy) choose organic ingredients for your table. And if you're a turkey lover, make sure it's free range.

7. Give an eco gift
An eco gift tells the recipient that you care about the environment, and they should too! Give your favourite climate change skeptic a gift from our eco store - you may convince them to become a believer!

8. Offset your travel
Flying somewhere for Christmas? Spend a few dollars extra and offset your flights. And you're travelling in the car, consider giving your car the gift of 12 months of carbon offsets from a company like Greenfleet.

9. Go easy on post-Christmas sales
Like it or not, Christmas has become a festival of consumerism, which is fine in moderation. Hold off on the post-Christmas sales and ask yourself if you really need that new TV or handbag or whatever it might be.

10. Recycle unwanted gifts
We've all received them - the pair of socks or earrings or something else that just isn't quite us. Take it down to your local Salvo's store. Remember, one person's trash is another's treasure.

Vegan Christmas Pudding Recipe

Ingredients
225g currants
100g sultanas
100g raisins
100g chopped candied peel
25g almonds, chopped and skinned
100g plain wholemeal flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp powdered nutmeg
½ tsp ground ginger
1½ tsp mixed spice
225g raw sugar
100g fresh wholemeal breadcrumbs
225 vegetable suet or margarine
rind and juice of 1 lemon
4 tbsp soya flour
4 tbsp soya milk and rum mixed

Method

1. Grease a 1.2 litre pudding basin and have ready a saucepan large enough to hold the pudding basin.

2. Put the fruit into a large bowl with the candied peel and the almonds.

3. Sift the flour, salt and spices on top of the fruit, then add the sugar, breadcrumbs and margarine or suet.

4. Mix well, then stir in the grated lemon rind and juice.

5. Add enough of the soya milk and rum to make a soft mixture which will fall heavily from the spoon when you shake it.

6. Spoon the mixture into the pudding basin, cover with a piece of non stick foil, and tie down.

7. Put the basin into the saucepan and pour into the saucepan enough water to come half way up the bowl.

8. Bring to the boil, then cover the pan and leave the pudding to steam gently for 4 hours.  Ensure that the water level remains constant.

9. Cool, then store the pudding in a cool dry place.

10. Steam the pudding again for 3 hours before serving, then turn it out onto a warm serving plate.

11. Flame with brandy if you like, or serve with custard or brandy butter.
