| Why Australian Rainforests Need Protecting |
Rainforests are the most diverse ecosystems on Earth, and yet cover only 6% of the world's surface.
Around 50% of all plant and animal species on earth can be found in rainforests, including the My Earth company mascot, the birdwing butterfly.
Rainforests are also a rich resource for many cultivated plants, foods, raw materials and medicines.
It is a shocking fact that over 20 million hectares of rainforest are destroyed worldwide annually, for timber harvesting or land clearing to plant crops and graze cattle. If these resource rich ecosystems are to survive, it is vital that remaining areas of rainforest be protected.
Australia is one of the few places in the developed world where rainforests are available for public enjoyment, global conservation and research.
However, since the late 1700s around 75% of Australia's original tropical rainforest has been cleared for agricultural, industrial and urban development. Today rainforest covers just 0.5% or 4.2 million hectares of Australia's landmass.

| Eyeshadow Application Techniques |
Application techniques are many and varied when it comes to eyeshadow, although the general rule to remember is that light colours are used to highlight whereas dark colours shrink or recede.
When applying eyeshadow, first sweep the lightest 'highlighter' shade over your entire eye region from your lashes right up to your eyebrow.
After applying your base colour, apply a second medium shade on the lower eyelid up to the crease of your eye. Blend into your base shade so there are no harsh lines.
You can also smudge this shade under the bottom of your eyes, particularly good for creating a smoky look.
If desired, a third darker 'accent' colour can then be added to create extra depth.
Apply along the upper lash line, and into a wedge shape at the outer corner of the eye, emphasizing the crease of the eye and brow bone. Blend well.

| Veges In Season - Rosemary Baked Potatoes | |
August is the month for potatoes. Not only are they a wonderful source of carbohydrates, vitamins C, B1, B3 and B6 - they taste great too!
Here is an easy recipe idea to make the most of those beautiful in-season potatoes:
Rosemary Baked Potatoes
Ingredients
- 1 kg new potatoes (mid size)
- olive oil
- salt, freshly milled black pepper
- four or five sprigs of fresh rosemary
Method
- wash and brush the potatoes very well - normally you don't have to peel new potatoes
- wash rosemary, remove needles
- grease a baking tin with olive oil
- cut potatoes in halves and place them (cut surface down) on the baking tin
- spice generously with salt and pepper
- sprinkle rosemary needles on the potatoes
- drizzle olive oil on the potatoes and bake for 45-60 min at 180°C
