The District's UUA Trustee to be
Elected at the 2011 Annual Meeting |

Our UUA Trustee, Eva Marx, concludes her term of office at the end of the 2011 General Assembly, A new UUA Trustee for the Ballou Channing District will be elected at the BCD 2011 Annual Meeting, April 30. By the provisions Article XI, Section 3 of the Ballou Channing District By-laws, nominations shall be made by petition by member societies of the UUA and the District. A nominee must be a legal member of a member society. Nominations shall require the sponsorship of at least thirty (30) members from member societies with no more than ten (10) signatures of members from any one member society. The petition must be submitted to the District office on or before March 29, 2011. Nomination information along with a petition form has been sent to congregation offices. It can also be obtained from the District office 508-559-6650 / ballouchanning@verizon.net

The District's Annual Program Fund (APF) Committee will sponsor a Stewardship Workshop on January 29th from 9:30 to 3:00 at Second Parish in Hingham. Coffee will be served at 9:00. Lunch will be served. Cost is $10 per person, payable at the door. Advanced registration is required. Call or email the District Office - 508-559-6650 / bcdoffice@verizon.net - by Wednesday, January 26, 2011 with the names, phone numbers and email address for congregation attendees.
The workshop, lead by Laurel Amabile, Director of the UUA's APF office, is designed to help congregation leaders develop strategies for stewardship and generosity in their congregations. The day will include informational presentations, discussions about strategies and use of volunteers, and role-playing. |

· Allies for Racial Equity Annual Conference
The annual Allies for Racial Equity Conference will be held March 25-27, 2011 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ft. Myers in Ft. Myers, FL.
Through workshops, panel presentations and experiential activities participants will have the opportunity to:
· Explore issues of concern to white anti-racist activists
· Consider ways congregations can engage with the new Unitarian Universalist Study Action issue "Immigration as a Moral Issue"
· Reflect on the way whiteness is operating nationally in current events, politics and culture
Additionally, participants will be able to explore ways in which white anti-racist allies can be prepared for the 2012 General Assembly in Phoenix, which the delegates at the 2010 General Assembly voted to be a "Justice General Assembly."

· Sermon Contest sponsored by UUs for Jewish Awareness.
The UUJA recently announced the theme of its fourth annual Jerry Davidoff Sermon Award, for the sermon delivered in 2010 which best illustrates or exemplifies the contributions of Jewish theology, thought or culture to our Unitarian Universalist tradition. The first place award is a $500 honorarium and an opportunity to present the sermon at the 2011 General Assembly. Sermons are to submitted in Word or compatible word processing format, together with the date and location they were delivered, to Arthur Thexton, UUJA Vice President, at athexton@alum.beloit.edu. Submissions will be accepted until March 15, 2011. Inclusion of readings is entirely optional.
· A "How to Host a Book Fair" Guide Available from the UUA Bookstore
The UUA Bookstore can assist a congregation plan and conduct a book fair. They have created an organizers guide, and can help with promotion with posters, and bookmarks. The books can be ordered without up-front costs. Study Guide Materials for New CSAI
"Immigration as a Moral Issue" |

Delegates at the 2010 General Assembly selected "Immigration as a Moral Issue" as a Congregational Study/Action Issue for the next four years. A Study Guide is now available on the UUA website at. The Guide provides a broad range of resource materials for congregational and individual study.
Also, a curriculum for a six-week adult education course and a worship resource supplement will be available soon. Topics include: understanding the causes of migration, the history of immigration in the US, the economics of immigration, security and enforcement, and building a theology of migrant justice. This new guide revises and expands the 1997 version found in Fundraising with a Vision. As in the old guide, the financial commitment levels are still suggestions, but the new guide has some difference including higher expectations for financial commitment as well as a new way of looking at giving levels. |

In brief, the UUA Board:
- Agreed to ask the district presidents to consider changes in their role in the denomination's governance and service delivery
- Agreed to introduce bylaw changes to decouple the election of trustees from districts
- Approved a plan to allow off-site delegates to the General Assembly
- Endorsed a statement of purpose for the 2012 "Justice General Assembly" in Phoenix, Arizona
- Agreed to improve its communications using a range of social media
- Met with Appreciative Inquiry mentor Amands Trosten-Bloom
- Welcomed the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of McMinnville, OR as a new member of the Association
- Received a report from President Peter Morales that described his three programmatic priorities - congregational growth, and all-encompassing review of the UUA's different means of communication and public witness with a focus on working with and empowering congregations at the local level
