Exciting Lineup of Presenters for

BCD Fall Conference October 30, 2010

The Fall Conference program, from worship to keynote sermon to workshops, has been designed to explore the timely issues of multi-culturalism, multi-generationalism and growth in our congregations in the new decade.  The worship service, led by the Rev. Catherine Cullen, and the keynote sermon by Tandi Rogers, Pacific Northwest District Program Specialist and newly appointed Interim Youth and Young Adult Ministries Director will kick-off our look at the many aspect of these topics.

Eight workshops have been developed to do more in depth examination of multi-culturalism and racial justice, ministry in the next decade, use for small groups as a tool for congregational growth, the role of the family in faith formation, the potential and promise of young adults for the future of our faith and congregations.

First Parish Duxbury, 842 Tremont St (Route 3A) is hosting the conference.  Registration -- $25 adults, $10 youth -- can be done on line at http://bcduuafall2010.eventbrite.com, or by using the printed registration form available on the Fall Conference flier mailed to congregation offices in September.  Doors open at 8:30a.m., worship and program start at 9:00.

Ballou Channing District Staff Changes

Two staff consultants will be leaving their positions with the district at the end of October. Deer Sullivan, Religious Education and Youth Ministry Consultant, has accepted the position of Acting Director of Religious Education at First Parish Brewster.  Jen Shattuck, Young Adult Ministry Consultant, has had new work demands placed on her at her permanent job which has significantly reduced the hours available for the district part-time position.  District Executive, Bill Zelazny, notes "Deer and Jen made significant contributions to the development of their respective positions, bringing creativity and energy to their work.  We wish them all success in their new ventures, but they will be missed."

The District Executive will be assessing over the next several weeks staffing arrangements in order to determine how best to provide the broadest level of support to congregations with  plans to appoint new staff by January 2011.
