Many Hands

It Takes Many Hands

Before launching into this month's edition of Habitat Extra, I want to take a moment to thank everyone that responded to our call to action last month.  We were faced with unexpected financial obstacles, and you were there to offer your support.  Many of you even expressed your support with generous gifts - thank you!

It takes many hands to build a home.  Hands willing to pick up a hammer, and hands willing to pick up a pen to write a check.  We certainly wouldn't be able to build strong families and communities without both.  Yet there are many ways you can be a part of fulfilling our mission beyond the hammer and pen.  Maybe it's offering lunch for volunteers, mentioning Habitat on your blog, or even forwarding this e-mail to a friend or loved one.

However you choose to get involved with Habitat, we want to be sure you have the tools and resources available.  In addition to Habitat Extra, we also offer regular e-mail updates for volunteer opportunities and e-coupons for our Habitat Home Store.  You can manage which e-mail lists you subscribe to by scrolling to the bottom of this e-mail and clicking the Update Profile/Email Address link.
We are so blessed to have your support - thank you for being a part of Habitat's work Anderson County!

Best Wishes,

Jennifer Hancock

Increasing Our Impact: Neighborhood Revitalization

Increasing Our ImpactIn response to the profound housing challenges that communities throughout the United States are facing, Habitat for Humanity and its affiliates have developed a multifaceted strategic program to better meet the need for simple, decent housing. This new program, called the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, is designed to encourage a holistic approach to community development.

Already some of the Neighborhood Revitalization methods have been launched in Anderson County with A Brush with Kindness, a pilot program designed to assist low-income homeowners with exterior home maintenance in Oak Ridge. We look forward to partnering with our volunteers and donors to launch additional methods, such as owner-occupied repair work, throughout our service area. Our new home construction remains strong and will continue to be the core of our mission.

For our volunteers, this means construction work might be building a new house or helping to repair an "old" one. Working together, we can help even more families in need of adequate shelter...so let's get started!!

WKU Students "Help Build It" in Anderson County
WKUThis month, a group of nine members from Western Kentucky University's Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter, traveled to Anderson County to help Habitat.  During their visit, the students worked on reinforcing the drainage system at Habitat's Hickory Ridge Subdivision in Clinton as well as rehab work on a house in Oak Ridge.

Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County would like to offer special thanks to the following groups, businesses, and individuals who helped provide hospitality for the volunteers: Patty and Dave Campbell, First Presbyterian Church, Taco Bell, and Venice Pizza & Grill.

Up Next:  January is filling up with student groups wanting to help build and rehab simple, decent housing in Anderson County.  Contact Amanda Walters at 482-7713 or volunteer@hfhac.org to help with hospitality.
