| Meet Our Homeowners
The Daugherty Family |
Working 40 hours a week and earning a little more than minimum wage, Lisa Daugherty couldn't afford renting an apartment - much less dream of owning a home three years ago. At the time, Lisa was sharing a room with her daughter while living with her parents. Like many single moms, she worked hard to juggle a full-time job and taking care of her daughter. Habitat for Humanity Mourns Passing of Founder Millard Fuller |
Habitat for Humanity is deeply saddened by the death of Millard Fuller, the visionary whose ideas and tireless work created Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Fuller led Habitat from its founding in 1976 until his separation from the organization and his founding of the Fuller Center for Housing in 2005. He died February 3, following a brief illness. He was 74.
"Millard Fuller was a force of nature who turned a simple idea into an international organization that has helped more than 300,000 families move from deplorable housing into simple, decent homes they helped build and can afford to buy and live in," said Jonathan Reckford, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity International. "The entire Habitat family mourns the loss of our founder, a true giant in the affordable housing movement. Our prayers are with the entire Fuller family." |

We are still seeking volunteers to assist with providing hospitality for volunteers. Starting this month and continuing into April, we will be hosting youth volunteer groups participating in Habitat's Collegiate Challenge program. Groups will vary in size, and March will be our busiest month. This volunteer opportunity is perfect for groups, business, and individuals. If you want to volunteer, contact Amanda Walters at 482-7713 or volunteer@hfhac.org. |
| A Brush with Kindness Sweeps Across Oak Ridge |
Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County has launched a new program called A Brush with Kindness. Targeted at low-income homeowners in need of exterior home improvements, this program will initially focus on the Scarboro and Highland View neighborhoods in Oak Ridge. A Brush with Kindness will utilize volunteer teams to improve the condition of homes by painting, landscaping, and performing minor exterior repairs in partnership with homeowners who are unable to perform these tasks on their own. This program will serve as a companion to Habitat's core building program by partnering with low-income households that already own their own home. Click to Continue >> |
