What if the greatest threat to your health,
well-being, and life were not the swine flu or any other virus, but was instead
the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of those around you?
A virus attacks and
invades your body's cells and programs the DNA and RNA within them to carry out
its wishes, regardless of the best interests of you, its host.
The thoughts, feelings,
and emotions of others surround you every minute of the day like various
airborne pathogens. You perceive
them, take them into your body and your being, and say, "I feel angry, upset,
sad, unhappy, worried (and whatever else those for miles around you are
feeling)."
Your body then takes this
as a command and says, "Okay, you said feel angry, upset, nauseous, whatever"
and does everything it can to create that sensation in your body. The alien thought, feeling, emotion
becomes yours and runs your body and your life-many times forever.
What if there were
another way of functioning in the world?
What if we had a choice
about whether others' thoughts feelings and emotions actually infected us and
ran our lives?
Guess what! You do have a choice. And there is a simple tool you can use
to make yourself instantly aware of that choice.
Here's the tool:
Who does
this belong to?
How do you use this
tool? It's really easy!
Whenever you find
yourself "having" an emotion, a feeling, or a thought, just ask,
Who does
this belong to?
At least 98% of the times
you ask this question, you will perceive a lightening up in your being. For some it feels like a weight lifted
from their shoulders; for some it feels like a relaxation in their stomach,
throat, or chest; for some, it feels like the air around them becomes lighter,
less dense, like there is more space between the molecules. HOW you feel it is not important; THAT
you feel it is critically important if you wish to get free of everyone else's
thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
When you feel that
lightening up, all you have to do is return the thought, feeling, or emotion to
its sender. If you didn't create
it, is it your problem? Can you
truly do anything about it? Only
the person who created it can change it.
You can't solve it for
them, nor do you assist them by attempting to. Your attempt to change it robs them of the opportunity to
change it and create something different in their own lives.
What do we mean by
thoughts feelings and emotions? A
thought is something we
think. It has words, it can be
expressed in a sentence once we become aware of it, and the thoughts we have,
whether they are ours or not, reflect themselves in the reality we create
around us.
An emotion is a visceral sensation: angry, sadness, fear,
excitement. We feel it in our
bodies, and many of us have mis-identified that that sensation is what tells us
we're alive.
A feeling is in some ways a combination of the two: it can be expressed in words, and it
has an affective or quasi-emotional component as well. Feelings are often how we justify what
we've done or thought or created.
Feelings are about what "feels right" to us, what "feels" appropriate,
what "feels comfortable." It
doesn't have the visceral intensity of emotion, but it's less intellectual than
thought.
These thoughts, feelings
and emotions tend to be what we all think is real; they are what we create our
lives from; and we tend to believe the more intense they are, the more real
they must be. These
thoughts, feelings, and emotions that we make real function as a giant
distraction from what is possible for us as the infinite being we truly
are. Would an infinite being
choose all this? Or, being
infinite, would they recognize they had better choices, like joy, bliss, and
ecstasy?
So when you choose to
function from these thoughts, feelings and emotions, are you choosing to
function as the infinite being you truly are, or are you choosing to function
from a more limited finite place?
Is that really your best choice?
Here's the way out:
Who does
this belong to?
There's many ways to use
this tool. Any time you find
yourself feeling upset, afraid, unhappy, angry, or anything else other than joy
bliss and ecstasy, you can ask yourself,
Who does
this belong to?
If you're really daring,
you could "shoot the moon" and really go for it, and get clear once and for all
(in the space of just three days) on how much of what you have been basing your
life on (what's been running your life, really) belongs to you..or doesn't.
Here's how it works: For three days, make the commitment to
yourself to ask,
Who does
this belong to?
every time you feel
anything other than joy bliss and ecstasy, or the lightness you as an infinite
being truly are.
It may be harder than it
sounds! What usually happens is
you'll start this and maybe be able to carry on for 45 minutes if you're really
lucky. Then you'll space out and
forget all about it for an hour or two.
Then you start again and maybe you last an hour. Then you forget for another hour or
two. It's okay! You can still count this day as the
first of your three days.
The second day will be
easier. And you'll probably still
forget. And you can still count
that day.
And by the middle of the
third day, you will discover an emptiness in your head-all those thoughts you
had been thinking were yours will start to automatically go back to their
senders, leaving you with--oh, yeah, peace.
How does it get even
better than that?
Well, one way is that you
could join us. We're having three
days of
Who does
this belong to?
and we're inviting you to
join us!
Just imagine--if all the
stuff that's been running our lives isn't ours, and we start to recognize it
and stop allowing it to infect us, how much better (ie happier more peaceful,
more easeful) might our lives become?
How might that affect (infect?) everyone around us? Might that just change the world? Wouldn't it be worth a try?
Wanna play?
Who does
this belong to? Day
started November 3, 2009, so some of us may be on Day 3--but you can still start now!
All you have to play is
do your best to ask,
Who does
it belong to?
every time you have a
thought, feeling, or emotion.
What will happen if we do
this? What are the infinite
possibilities? Are you ready for
wonderful surprises?
