I think John should plant the whole farm in Okra in the Summer. I am a Yankee, but once I tasted fried Okra (see my recipe below), I could eat it 3 times a day. It's not quite ready to pick, but watch my emails and I'll let you know when. Heirloom Tomatoes are ready to pick at the farm. What a treat. No cardboard tasteless tomatoes here. FRIED OKRA
10 pods okra, sliced in 1/4 inch pieces
1 egg, beaten
1 cup cornmeal
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup vegetable oil
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, soak okra in egg for 5 to 10 minutes. In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, salt, and pepper.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Dredge okra in the cornmeal mixture, coating evenly. Carefully place okra in hot oil; stir continuously. Reduce heat to medium when okra first starts to brown, and cook until golden. Drain on paper towels.

Greetings!
Hydro Harvest Farms couldn't possibly say thank you enough to all of the people that supported the Epcot Florida Farmers Market event last week at the "World" (That's what my son Billie calls it). I think every farmer who displayed thier wonderful crops at the Garden Town in Epcot during the Flower and Garden Festival will agree with us. Eric, who manages the Horticulture Area, Melissa with our favorite Department of Agriculture and all of our faithful customers who came to the festival to support us. We met so many nice farming families. What a nice way of giving back to the farmers. You can bet we will be there next year, and we hope you will too.
I am still entering the names and email addresses of all of the folks who signed up to win the free system. I will announce the winner in next weeks newsletter, so tune in. If you live out of state and can't pick the system up at the farm, we just ask you pay the postage for us to ship it. It shouldn't be more than $35.00.

LOCAVORES
It has been awhile since I touted my feelings about how important it is to EAT LOCAL...EAT FRESH! By promoting local agriculture you are helping all of us remain food independent. After watching what has happened to our auto industry,do we really want to see our food sources come from other countries? We own Dodge and Crysler products and we hope they make it through these difficult times.Do we want to see the small farms close down because we can't compete with huge corporate farms or foreign farms that use uncertain food sources and uncertain food practices ? The Swine flu has been investigated and it is determined that it began on an American corporate farm in Mexico, now that's a combination we didn't expect. Unless you grow your own, or visit the local farmer or local farm market, you do not know or have control of what you consume. I realize this sounds preachy, but I believe in my heart that this is the most important decision you will make. Grow your own, buy local, support your local farms and make good choices for you and your family.
There is so much good information on what is happening in the Locavore Scene.

FUNDAMENTALS OF NUTRITION
Dr Betty is our customer and Hydroponic grower. John had the opportunity today, May 16, to give a speech for her Fundamentals of Nutrition Class in Sarasota. I think we have a whole class of future Hydroponic Growers. Combining the the importance of Nutrition and the ease of growing your own is a perfect match. Dr. Betty purchased our SET IT AND FORGET IT. I think she will probably expand on that system in no time.
