Still time to get these guys done before Easter
Don't you love how the later sunsets urge us to breathe in that fine spring air, even on days when the warmth and the sunshine are not showing off.
And spring means Easter which, being later this year, has afforded us lots of time to get these little cuties together before the bunny comes.
Alan Dart is probably the world's best known knitted doll/toy designer, following in the tradition of the beloved Jean Greenhowe (whose books we still stock regularly).
Check out Alan's site and get your free pattern for these little chick cuties (complete with egg shell) then come in to pick out the perfect colours to work them up. |
THE IMPORTANCE OF SAMPLES

Store samples are essential to give our customers a true sense of what finished garments will look like. Daily we have customers commenting on how much they appreciate seeing the finished project in our store.
This gorgeous unisex (although the published pattern is on a man) polo sweater in Cascade's classic chunky ECO WOOLHEATHERS is a perfect example of how reality is so much more valuable than the picture that is on the cover of the pattern. Come and see it for yourself, and plan to make this classic beauty for some special person in your life.

Here's another example: We've been stocking these SUEDE SLIPPER SOLES for a couple of years but I never got around to having a sample pair of slippers on display until recently. I absolutely love them. The simple 2 needle pattern included with the soles is for a knitted or crocheted "upper" which is easily sewn to the sole for the coziest of footwear. The soles come in S-M-L which cover most adult foot sizes.

And don't forget to check the last article in this newsletter for great savings on this beautiful new sample cardigan.

Have you ever seen such glorious colours? It's almost too much for us colour fanatics to bear. New from Jawoll MAGIC DEGRADE these 100g balls will make a most vibrant pair of socks but would also be perfect for a warm and simple shawlette, just the thing for cool spring days.

DYE VERSION Bamboo Sock Yarn with spandex
For sheer luxury of the feel and look of this yarn, I do believe that this is perhaps my favourite non wool sock yarn. At the Sock-In-A-Day class last week, we spent a good 1/2 hour passing the ball around and squeezing it for the simple pleasure of imagining its soft spring surrounding tired feet. A great selection of colours has just arrived. Don't miss out on this great Canadian artisanal yarn. |
and for all you super sock fans:

WOOLY NEWS FROM ACROSS BOTH PONDS
Spring is the time that brings to mind wooly sheep, and glorious spring lamb roasts as well. From both sides of the world,
here are some interesting sheepy tidbits.
New Zealand Sheep

Official government statistics note that per square km of New Zealand you can find on average 14 people and 135 sheep yet shockingly, from our knitterly perspective, only 2-3% of their wool market goes to hand knitting yarns.
WonderWool Wales
On the weekend of April 9th and 10th, at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells (don't you just love that crazy way the Welsh throw spelling conventions to the wind?) you will find everything you can possibly imagine about wool and how it pertains to hand crafts. Check out the gallery of pictures to see the most amazing knits and knitters, weaving and felting. |

The most expensive socks?

I've heard of holes in socks but this is ridiculous.
Fashion house extraordinaire Rodarte presented their latest hose - a pair of crochet socks of fine mohair and alpaca priced at just ... $500/pair. Check out the link to see the video of some average New Yorkers' response to this fashion fare. |

i KNITTING ON THE NET
Finally, after years of having customers looking for personalized tags to sew into their special projects, I've found KNIT TAGS: an on-line company that can customize these wonderful knitting accessories and ship them to you in no time, and best of all, in sensible quantities (pkgs of 10 labels). Now there's no excuse not to show off your handiwork.
This stunning cat face is just one example of Ruth Marshall's love of nature (and all things feline) and her ability to render that love in knitting projects. Link here for a fabulous overview of Ruth's work on the Knitting Out Loud blog, and visit Ruth's website for more insight into this wonderful designer's abilities.
(and KNITTING in the MOVIES...)
THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB...The MOVIE, update.
A few years ago we had all heard the buzz, which has recently wound down to the softest of drones, that Julia Roberts bought the rights to the movie of the Kate Jacobs novel: THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB. Well the latest is that the production is officially listed on cinema insider sites as being "in development", which I believe is the term for the limbo where all good ideas go when a certain period of time passes as they get caught up in any number of entanglements, in this case, Julia had a baby, which I'm sure would have posed no end of challenges to the film editors.

And speaking of getting caught up, we have Tangled. In the Spring edition of Vogue Knitting magazine they reported: "The latest Disney princess may have been locked in a tower most of her life, but at least she had a good knitting teacher." Rapunzel handles her animated needles properly in the movie thanks to Barbra Pushies, a member of the film's production crew and avid knitter and knitting teacher. |
