FELTING BOOKS
Not your mama's Felting I love this book!!! Obviously aimed at the younger crowd, NYMF sweeps the rest of us along by showing just how creative and fun felting is. Full of tips and excellent detail, it takes a lot of the fear out of actually "shrinking" your woolen projects. The colour pictures alone had me thinking of all kinds of things that I'd like to try out. A must for anyone who is a fibre fan and want's try something different (Great for everyone: knitting/crochet not essential.)
WOOL PETS is one very cute book and although you may feel that the artistic requirements for such detailed needle felting may be beyond most of us, you'll be amazed at how you begin to "see" the shape within the wool, whether it looks exactly like the picture or not. It's a beautiful craft that kids can join in (with a little supervision.) From tiny bug magnets to mermaids and gnomes, you'll love each of these designs.

Well, actually it's the knit-in that was scheduled at WOOL-TYME Kingston on Friday the 13th that has been canceled. But never fear, 2009 has been blessed with 3 Fridays that fall on the 13th and so we can look forward to some all night knitting fun in November.

-The Kingston Knitting Circle will be meeting at Chapters in their community room on Tuesday March 17th and from 7-9pm.
NEW NEW NEW As many of us who meet at Chapters seem to be avid readers as well as knitters, we thought that it might be fun to choose a book to talk about at the next meeting. This one is SWEETNESS IN THE BELLY by Canadian author, Camilla Gibb. Link Here for a review of this novel. (Everyone that I've mentioned it to who has read it responds identically: "I loved this book!" Should be worth a look.)
-Loose Ends Knitting Group OOPS, I made a mistake in the last newsletter. This group meets at the downtown Tea Store on the corner of Princess and Sydenham St on the 1st and 3rd Sunday mornings of the month only from 10am-noon. KNITTING ON THE NET
A couple of weeks ago I received an email invitation to join the KNITTING NETWORK, which describes itself as A dedicated social network especially for the people who love to knit! Sounds like my kind of folks!
I signed up and browsed the site a bit. For those of you who are avid RAVELERS, you will be interested to watch the development and growth of such a site from the beginning. I found it very easy to navigate and welcoming. I was even able to get a listing for the store via a lovely email exchange with Kate, the administrator. Good luck to her and her team in their exciting new venture.
And for those of you who have not yet met RAVELRY...Prepare to enjoy and share your knitting life in a whole new way. RAVELRY is an on-line community of knitters from around the world who share their specific interests, swap stories, tips, yarns and support. Link here to request a membership.
Both of these groups are wonderful examples of how the internet is making our very large world a more friendly place.
Want to see some really different Knitting. Link here to Rachel John's Extreme Knitting video where she assembles 1000 strands of yarn to knit this "mattress".
And some of us have trouble dealing with double strands! | |

CLASSES FOR MARCH
Due to my own foolishness in double booking myself, we have had to change the dated for the
Advanced Sock Techniques class to Sat. March 28th and I believe that there are still 1 or 2 spots left. Ready for a challenge or just bored with your plain old socks? Give it a try.
On Saturday March 21st, we'll be having the 2nd part of our series on colour knitting, teaching the ins and outs of Fair Isle knitting...how to create beautiful colour patterns without having them bunch up on you, how to use both hands (one for each colour), and EEK... how to use "steeks" with Fair Isle knitting to cut and create easy cardigans, neck shaping and arm holes. Really! (Shot of booze before cutting not included.)
Call the store at 613-384-3951 for more information or to register. |
