FELTING BOOKSNot your Mama's Felting

Not your mama's Felting I love this book!!! Obviously aimed at the younger crowd, NYMF sweeps the rest of us along by showing just how creative and fun felting is. Full of tips and excellent detail, it takes a lot of the fear out of actually "shrinking" your woolen projects. The colour pictures alone had me thinking of all kinds of things that I'd like to try out. A must for anyone who is a fibre fan and want's try something different (Great for everyone: knitting/crochet not essential.)

Wool Pets
WOOL PETS is one very cute book and although you may feel that the artistic requirements for such detailed needle felting may be beyond most of us,  you'll be amazed at how you begin to "see" the shape within the wool, whether it looks exactly like the picture or not. It's a beautiful craft that kids can join in (with a little supervision.) From tiny bug magnets to mermaids and gnomes, you'll love each of these designs.

KNITTING ON THE NET
knitting on the netA couple of weeks ago I received an email invitation to join the KNITTING NETWORK, which describes itself as  A dedicated social network especially for the people who love to knit! Sounds like my kind of folks!

Knitting NetworkI signed up and browsed the site a bit. For those of you who are avid RAVELERS, you will  be interested to watch the development and growth of such a site from the beginning. I found it very easy to navigate and welcoming. I was even able to get a listing for the store via a lovely email exchange with Kate, the administrator. Good luck to her and her team in their exciting new venture.

Ravelry
And for those of you who have not yet met RAVELRY...Prepare to enjoy and share your knitting life in a whole new way. RAVELRY is an on-line community of knitters from around the world who share their specific interests, swap stories, tips, yarns and support. Link here to request a membership.
Both of these groups are wonderful examples of how the internet is making our very large world a more friendly place.

Knitting Tip of the
Month
In praise of the lowly FABRIC SHAVER.
Seldom a day goes by at the store without a customer asking me if the yarn that they have chosen will "ball" or "pill" Fabric shaveror get bits of "fluff" growing out of if. My answer generally is:"I don't know." But the truth is: It doesn't matter...let yourself fall in love with whatever yarn you want to...the fabric shaver will cure fabric shaverall of your "pilling" heartaches. Click on the  picture  to the left to link to a site with a great little video on using a fabric shaver. The only thing that I would add to the information that Kristine gives you is to buy the biggest plug-in model that you can find. Whatever you pay for it, it will be well worth it in time and sweaters saved.
Do you have any knitting, finishing or fibre care questions that you'd like answered? If you do, others probably have the same question too. Please e-mail me at wooltymekingston@gmail.com and we'll see about adding it to this Knitting Tip of the Month space.
March's Free Pattern
Fingerless GlovesA couple of weeks ago we ran out of paper copies of this incredibly popular pattern at the store and I suggested that the customer could look it up on our pattern web site. I called up the site to show her what it looked like and was stunned to realize that this ridiculously easy and versatile pattern was not on the site yet. So here it is! Give it a try. The young folks in your life will be begging for a pair in every colour.
