Turkey HatHAPPY THANKSGIVING Canada!
I'm not quite sure what to say about this knitted hat except that there are definitely some very creative people out there who have too much time on their hands.

We have so much to be thankful Dress Down Day for Breast Cancer.
for, and in that spirit we just want to remind you about DRESS DOWN DAY on Friday October 3rd, and invite you to celebrate this event with us.
Dress Down Day is an annual event held on the first Friday in October to celebrate breast cancer awareness month. At the WOOL-TYME Kingston store, we will be wearing our dress-down comfy knits and donating 15% of sales for that day to the Breast Cancer Action Kingston, for their wonderful "Knit a square" campaign to make blankets for patients receiving chemo at KGH. We will also be accepting donations all day and selling pink cupcakes to aid in the event so please mark your calendars and plan to join us.
NEW YARNS:
ECCO Baby Camel ChunkyThis gorgeous sweater is only one of the designs that can be knit from ECCO's new arrivals: BABY CAMEL and HOMESTEAD Eco 100% wool, both chunkies are ecofriendly and beautiful to the touch.
Along with these new yarns is an exquisite laceweight  Alpaca in several  natural and beautifully dyed colours that is suitable for petting over and over again.
Noro NijiNEW from Noro, Japan's greatest export as far as most knitters are concerned, is NIJI, a lovely boucle that features a blend of wool, nylon, silk and mohair in their usual blend of glorious colours.
Just 2 balls makes a great looking scarf to add a touch of pizzazz to each of your winter coats.
SOCK NEWS!
Great news for those of you who have people with "subdued" taste for whom you knit socks. Lana Grossa has brought out a new fine 4ply sock yarn called SETA/CASHMERE that comes in all of the traditional colours that your quiet guys appreciate but with a luxury of the feel of wool, silk, cashmere and nylon that will let them know just how special they are.  4 colours in stock, with more on the way. As with all other sock yarns (21 of which we carry in our store...) Get them while you can.
Fabel Big

JUST ANOTHER SELF STRIPING SOCK YARN?
 I think not!
Due to the popularity of Fabel, a wonderful Jacquard patterned fine sock yarn, Garnstudio has brought out FABEL BIG which comes in 5 great colour combinations and knits a thick ski sock in no time. Just 40 stitches for an average adult sock can be done in just a few hours. Cozy and gorgeous...I love it!
more Big Girl KnitsBOOKS JUST ARRIVED
A second lovely book of patterns by Amy Singer and Jillian Moreno for the more voluptuous among us... MORE BIG GIRL KNITS has chosen designs and techniques with beautiful shaping and gorgeous details to make the most of our curves. A truly beautiful collection.
Felt forward

FELT FORWARD, Modern Design in Knitted Felt by Maggie Pace was featured in the latest magazine Knitter's FELT (still available at WOOL-TYME Kingston) and brings the  whole technique of knitting and shrinking to a new level of creativity, offering guidelines in achieving the effects that you want to create. It's a beautiful book.

Knit AidA new concept in describing a book to you is to refer you to the youtube video description of KNIT AID by Vickie Howell, host of PBS's KNITTY GRITTY. It's a great little video that takes you through the main parts of the book with Vickie, much better than I could ever do it here. I must however warn you that the book was so popular from the very beginning that it has been on back-order since we first received it. But if Vickie sells you on it (and it really does have a place in every knitter's library) let us know and we will put you on the list of people to call when we get our next shipment.

Sock Yarn AfghanWANTED: Good home for bits of sock yarn.
This picture is a creative person's way of using up every bit of yarn that they have in their stash. As most of us are not like that, cutomers have been generously donating yarn "bits", and over the past few months we've collected 2 bags of fingering weight sock yarn leftovers.

If your heart races at the thought of the fun you could have with an infinite number of colours of 4 ply sock yarn, these bags are available to you in 1 of 2 ways:
-You can have them for free if you are looking for yarn to make socks for charity. (A shelter, the Salvation Army, etc)
or
- you can pay $10 for the lot and we'll put that money towards buying yarn that is more suitable for Project Linus Blankets. First come first served.

LUCY NEATBY IN PERTH.
Lucy NeatbyWith Kaffe Fassett's wisdom of colour sense still ringing in the streets of Perth, there's another special treat later in the season for all knitters: Lucy Neatby will be giving a 2-day seminar early November at the Perth Manor.  Lucy's recent fame in sock design ( COOL SOCKS, WARM FEET) is not her only talent. I've been a fan of her ideas, designs and contributions to the Canadian knitting scene for many years.

for information and tickets.
September's FREE non-pattern!
This could be the best batch of knitting information
that you will ever e-mail for.
Wraps per inchOver the years the most popular admission that we hear from knitters is that one of the reasons that they come to us is because they just don't know/understand/"get" the difference between the listed weights/gauges/quantities of yarns. And no wonder: with terms like "Double knitting" which has nothing to do with knitting doubled, and 2-3&4 ply which can refer to fine baby yarn or super bulky yarns, or "Worsted Weight" when hardly
anyone really knows what worsted means anyway!

In order to make this easier for all, we've compiled a great 2 page pdf  called TENSIONS AND GAUGES that we can email to you, which lays out in grid form the different weights of yarn available today along with the typical needle sizes and gauges used for each.
Also included is a  cross reference of British, American, Australian and Canadian terms for the different weights of yarns and a description of the "Wraps per inch" method (see photo above) of estimating the weight of a yarn that has been left naked in your stash and needs to be swatched.

All you need to do to receive this printable piece of knitting gold is e-mail us at wooltymekingston@gmail.com and we'd be thrilled to share it with you.
It's just part of our commitment to making you all wiser and more confident knitters.
