KNITTING PEACE
This beautiful picture can be found at a blog called Sand Gets in my Eyes. The blog author shares how knitting brings a sense of peace to her very interesting life in Saudi Arabia and now in Australia.
At this hectic time of the year, please take a moment to look closely at the picture of this unknown knitter and perhaps read a bit about another knitter's experience and think of how blessed we all are to be knitting for pleasure.
All our best wishes to you for a healthy, happy, and peaceful 2008! |
BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS
One of the most consistently excellent knitting magazines on the market is INTERWEAVE KNITS and they have recently released a collection called THE BEST OF INTERWEAVE Knits, which includes favorite designs from the first 10 years of publication.
This book offers not only exquisite designs but tutorials in its "Beyond the Basics" segments on topics such as blocking, increases, reading charts, etc. It is a book for inspiration, enjoyment and excellence in pattern design and writing. Don't miss looking for it in our store.

Kaffe Fassett is, above all else, an artist and because he was never tied in to conventions of "granny's" knitting, he introduced many of us to a whole new way of looking at our craft, and indeed at colour in general back in the '80's.
In his latest book, he reinvents 24 of his classic and most beloved designs. While these designs are striking, they need not intimidate beginning knitters: Kaffe has included several that use only two colors per row and large-sized needles. Plus, one of my favourite aspects of this book is that there is a respect for knitters who put an emphasis on finishing techniques and style.
For his legion of fans or for any passionate knitters looking to add warmth, color, and variety to their clothes, accessories, and home dcor, KAFFE KNITS AGAIN is the must-have knitting book of the year. |
ALPACA-WOOL SOCK YARN!!!
We all know how popular sock yarn is among knitters but I've yet to see the excitement that has been going on with Arequipa, the new alpaca/wool blend of fine sock yarn in glorious colour combinations.
Early in December we received 50 skeins and within 2 days we had sold over half of it for socks, scarves, shawls and even a couple of fine sweaters.
Never made socks before?? Don't let that worry you. Sign up now for our SOCK-IN-A-DAY class on Sat. Feb. 16th. This is one of our most popular and succesful classes and gives participants an amazing confidence that is hard to come by when struggling through the process by yourself. Your sock knitting future deserves the investment. Call today to register. 613-384-3951 |
NONI FELTED BAG AND ACCESSORIES PATTERNS
Noni bags are bags to be worn, not just carried. They are, like jewelry or any adornment, extensions of our personalities. Let your creativity guide you as much as these patterns do toward making your own unique statement. Add interesting combinations of flowers to your bags, go on color adventures, but most of all, enjoy the process.

WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO LEARN!

We will look into offering some in the spring session from April to June and again next fall.
WHAT'S YOUR PICK?
- Reversible 2 colour knitting.
- Sewing up sweaters.
- 2 handed "Fairisle" knitting.
- Picture knitting from graphs.

- SWEATER-IN-A-WEEKEND workshop.
- Conquering the fancy cables.

For fans of knitting novelist Debbie McComber and DIY fans of Vickie Howell, Feb. 16th &17th sounds like a good time to visit Bloomington, Minnesota for the KNIT OUT 2008 gathering sponsored by the Craft Yarn Council of America. At this meeting, international finals will pit the fastest knitters and crocheters from the U.S. against those from the U.K., Canada, The Netherlands, and France. (However, I was an avid watcher of "The Mary Tyler Moore show", and it seems to me that I remember a lot of snow in Minnesota at that time of the year. Although it could be fun to be snowbound with a pile of knitting and nice people with whom to share the experience.) |

RE-USE THE BAG
It's wonderful to see how many of our shoppers are bringing bags with them when making their yarn purchases. Many of our regular customers are collecting the great bags that we sell and give with major project purchases, so that they can have a bag for each knitting job that they have on the go.
The New Year will also see WOOL-TYME Kingston move towards the use of light paper bags for smaller purchases. Please join us in trying to do our part for the earth. | |
