GREETINGS
This month in the United States, we will celebrate Thanksgiving. During this time of reflection and remembrance, we are called to acknowledge WHY WE ARE HERE, right now in this present moment. We are not here to fix, change or belittle another person. We are here to support, forgive and heal one another. As we are here, we are called to practice forgiveness, thankfulness and gratefulness. Thankfulness is one of the great avenues of Spirit's presence and power. When we give thanks, a door opens through which Spirit can work. One of the most significant realizations about the act of thanksgiving is that it is a choice. We can give thanks when something happens, but we can also simply choose to be thankful. This provides an avenue through which our lives can change. Choosing to be grateful in the midst of a challenge is difficult, but it is a choice we can make. During this month may we each give thanks for our lives as we know them now, in this present moment.

A PLEDGE FOR GRATEFUL LIVING
by Bro. David Steindl-Rast
- In thanksgiving for life, I pledge to overcome the illusion of ENTITLEMENT by reminding myself that everything is a gift and, thus, to live GRATEFULLY.
- In thanksgiving for life, I pledge to overcome feelings of lack, a feeling that confuses wants with needs, by trusting that enough for all our needs is given to us and to share GENEROUSLY what I so generously receive.
- In thanksgiving for life, I pledge to overcome discouragement or despair by waking up to the opportunities that each given moment offers me and so to respond CREATIVELY to every situation.
- In thanksgiving for life, I pledge to overcome ANGER by observing that reacting to anger with anger only leads to more unrest and violence, thus, to foster life by acting and responding from my heart in PEACE.
- In thanksgiving to life, I pledge to overcome FEAR which is the root of all distress and unrest by looking at whatever I fear as an opportunity and, thus, COURAGEOUSLY to lay the foundation for a peaceful future.

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
by Gail Mitchell
You hear about gratitude more and more. Oprah talks about it. Books are written about it. The truth is that when you are in gratitude for all aspects of your life, your mental outlook is positive and you are open to creating more positive experiences in your life.
Many of you have already learned that there is only one thing you can change in your life and that is your own perspective. The way you choose or create to see the world and life. When you have an attitude of gratitude, you begin to respond to experiences rather than react to them.
Each morning give thanks for all the good things in your life. If you think that you will forget to do this, post a post it note or a reminder somewhere by your alarm clock, on the medicine cabinet or any place that will remind you to take just a few brief minutes to be in gratitude. You will find that your whole outlook throughout the day may shift as a result of this process.
Regardless of outer conditions or experiences that may be going on, something different will have shifted from within you. When you recognize this shift, you will also notice that your heart has become more open: you are more loving and others may respond to you even more so in kind.
Keep these thoughts in mind as you consciously choose to practice gratitude: "All my thoughts, words, actions and feelings are positive. I am grateful to stop and find time to acknowledge all the small things I am grateful for."
Find the blessing in each experience you have. If a situation seems negative to you, you may find that there is a lesson that you have to learn. With an inner acknowledgement that there is a blessing, the lessons will be revealed to you.
Everyday is a new beginning and a day to be in gratitude for being alive. This is an opportunity to awaken and let go of the past, old habits, beliefs, worries and fears. Embrace the new day with grace and adventure. Be in gratitude for the higher power that is omnipresent in each and everyone of us. The power that guides us to forgive, heal, to love and be loved.

REDUCE COLD AND FLU VIRUS GERMS
While we cannot eliminate our exposure to cold and flu germs, we can do something to reduce these germs at home or in the office, thereby reducing the possibility of "sharing" the experience of illness.
