President's Message
By: José González
I hope that you enjoyed the 4th of July, awkward as it was on a Wednesday this year. Nonetheless, it's a time to reflect on our liberty and be thankful to the people who have courageously strived, often giving the last full measure, to defend it. The HBA thanks all of those in our community who work to protect our rights and liberty. Recently, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down key provisions of Arizona's SB 1070 legislation. We welcomed the Supreme Court's decision which bolsters the rights and liberties of our community. As one of the largest minority professional organizations in Southern California, it is our duty to give a voice to the voiceless and strength to the weak. My daughters have recently reminded me that they have been out of school and idle for the past few weeks and that we need to start making plans for summer! Those plans are being made. On August 23, we will celebrate our annual End of Summer Mixer with many of Orange County's affiliate and minority bar organizations at the newly renovated downtown Santa Ana hot spot-the Yost Theater. Please plan on joining us. Lastly, the HBA will be holding a special election in order to ask our members to ratify changes to the organization's bylaws. The special election ballot will be available online as of July 15 and voting will end on September 15. I encourage all of our members' participation in this special election. If you are not a member, please consider becoming a member or renewing your membership so that you can cast your vote. You can log on to www.ochba.org to get further details on membership and the special election. Enjoy your summer!!! |
