Sanchez (Ret.) on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rancho Santiago Community College District operations center, 2323 North Broadway, Santa Ana, CA.
General Sanchez was Commander of all coalition forces in Iraq from 2003-2004. During Operation Red Dawn his forces captured Saddam Hussein. The 3-star general was born in 1951 in Rio Grande City, Texas. He graduated from Texas A & M University in Kingsville, Texas in 1973 with a degree in mathematics and he holds a Masters in Science in Research and Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. He was the highest ranking Latino in the U.S. Army at the time he retired in 2006 after 33 years of military service. In his recently published autobiography entitled Wiser in Battle - A Soldier's Story, he details the story of his poverty- stricken youth and describes leading our forces in Kosovo, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He will also sign his book at the reception.

The celebration is known as the Red Mass because the priest and judges wore red robes. The tradition has continued in the United States with members of the US Supreme Court joining the resident and members of Congress each year at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington. Join us for MALDEF's 35th Annual Los Angeles Awards Gala, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel! Among our honorees this year, we are proud to include Eva Longoria Parker for her extraordinary achievement in promoting and protecting the civil rights of the Latino community. Ms. Longoria Parker is the founder of Eva's Heroes, a charity that helps developmentally disabled children. She is a dedicated supporter of many other organizations including PADRES contra el Cancer and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Amid the festivities we will also celebrate the return of Thomas A. Saenz to MALDEF in his new role as President and General Counsel.

Solution Saturday: IRS Help for Taxpayers in Tough Times!
What: It is a special Saturday in November set aside to offer free tax help and to resolve tax problems and issues for Los Angeles taxpayers. Beginning on Monday, October 26, people can call 213-576-4130 to set up appointments for Solution Saturday. Taxpayers are encouraged to schedule appointments for this day, however, people without appointments can walk in and get tax help as soon as possible when they arrive. When: Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

How YOU can help: We consider you ambassadors of Solution Saturday and hope you can us help spread the word about this event.
