The Orange County Hispanic Bar Association's annual scholarship for law school students is available now!

This fund is sponsored by the Hispanic Bar Association and awards scholarships to Orange County Hispanic law students. The Fund was named in memory of Wally Davis, one of the first Hispanic attorneys in Orange County who fought for the civil rights of all Hispanics.

Eligible students must be of Latino origin and involved in the Latino community.  Priority will be given to students with significant ties to Orange County.

Scholarship Awards:
  • Three $3,500 general law school tuition scholarships
  • One $2,175 UCI Law School tuition scholarship (student must be enrolled at UCI Law School)
  • One $1,500 Chapman Law School tuition scholarship (student must be enrolled at Chapman Law School)

Job Opening: Assistant to the Deputy Mayor of the Office of Strategic Partnerships Reports to Aileen Adams, Deputy Mayor

Role:
�    To ensure Deputy Mayor is organized, effective, prepared and efficient in her role
➢    Work needs to be priority-based, proactive, accurate, timely and thorough
➢    Meet all administrative needs and coordinate/communicate with other key staff to ensure that the Deputy Mayor addresses her daily priorities/schedule and is timely in all communication and activities
➢    Manage the flow of people and information

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Scheduling:
➢    Schedule all meetings and appointments
➢    Maintain an accurate and up-to-date electronic calendar
➢    Provide a courteous and professional greeting for all visitors
➢    Provide parking reservations and directions to guests
➢    Ensure that the Deputy Mayor has all relevant information for meetings and appointments, including background information, directions, and hand-outs
➢    Follow-up to prioritize items when necessary
➢    Be proactive to ensure key dates are noted and taken into consideration when scheduling

Correspondence:
�    Direct all correspondence, incoming and outgoing, internal and external, in a timely and efficient manner, including:  
➢    Telephone
➢    Written
�    Screen and prioritize Deputy Mayor's mail
�    Ensure timely hand-written and computer-generated response to incoming mail when appropriate
➢    Electronic
�    Synchronize Blackberry
�    Maintain up to date gift log record for Deputy Mayor, if relevant
�    Maintain an accurate and comprehensive contact database
�    Monitoring of urgent emails sent to ensure a timely review, response and reaction

Office management:
�    Maintain and organize filing system
�    Supervise Intern(s)
➢    Select and manage intern(s) for the office

Minimum Qualifications

Job Opening: Deputy Director for Planning and Administrative Services

Department: Mayor's Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD)

Position: Deputy Director for Planning and Administrative Services - Exempt Position

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) Program is a comprehensive gang reduction program administered by the Mayor's Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development. The GRYD program aims to effectively reduce gang crime and violence in specific geographic areas through the application of evidence-based gang prevention, intervention, reentry, and suppression strategies. The Deputy Director for Planning and Administrative Services oversee policy development and implementation, accounting functions, and grants and contracts administration for the GRYD Office.

The Deputy Director oversees ten employees including a Resource Development Officer, Grant Specialist, Accountants (2), Accounting Clerk, Manager for Planning, Compliance and Evaluation, and Policy Analysts (4). The Deputy Director reports directly to the Deputy Mayor of Gang Reduction and Youth Development.

Major duties and functions include:
  • Overseeing the implementation and management of all planning and administrative activities including but not limited to: developing Citywide policies and procedures related to gang reduction and youth development, liaising with partner city and community agencies, contract management, data collection, and evaluation and research;
  • Overseeing all grant and contract-related functions including contract negotiations and execution, monitoring, compliance with state and federal grant requirements, and training for contractors;
  • Overseeing all research and evaluation functions related to gang prevention, intervention and re-entry;
  • Coordinating training and professional development for GRYD staff as it relates to the City's contract execution process, legislative process, and accounting functions;
  • Preparing and advocating the budget for proposed expenditures from the General Fund related to gang reduction and youth development;
  • Working with members of the City Council, the City's Ad Hoc Committee on Gang Reduction and Youth Development, and relevant City Departments on the development and implementation of a comprehensive, Citywide gang reduction and youth development strategy.

THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA Invites applications for ASSISTANT COUNTY COUNSEL

THE POSITION
The County Counsel is the attorney for the County, including the Board of Supervisors and all County Officers, departments and agencies. The Office of the County Counsel is the attorney for the Grand Jury, for all special districts whose governing boards are composed in whole or in part of members of the County Board of Supervisors and certain other public agencies. Legal services are managed by the County Counsel who is supported by four Assistant County Counsels. A team approach is employed to provide legal services in the major practice areas including: health and hospital services; juvenile dependency and other Social Services Agency programs; conservatorships; litigation
defense, including worker's compensation; and general legal services related to labor and employment, finance and tax matters, land use, the environment, real property, law and justice and other County functions and departments. The Office also provides affirmative litigation in special matters to carry out Board policies.

An Assistant County Counsel is responsible for assisting in the strategic planning, development and administration of the Office of County Counsel; managing staff and administrative functions as necessary or required; and performing high level and difficult legal work to advise and represent clients.

Management responsibilities include planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating the work of attorneys in the County
Counsel's Office to ensure the performance of quality legal work in research, writing, advising and representing clients. The Assistant County Counsel also assists the County Counsel in the development and implementation of departmental policies and
procedures; performs assignments of a complex nature in advice and representation; represents the County Counsel on and before various boards and commissions; reviews opinions, contracts and other documents prepared by attorneys in the Office; reviews legal content of letters addressed to the Board of Supervisors for closed sessions; performs administrative assignments that may include assisting in the preparation and maintenance of the office budget, making recommendations for the hiring of professional staff and assisting in the hiring of support staff; coordinating continuing education and training of attorneys; and performing other related work as required.

Congressman Henry A. Waxman has an immediate opening for a full-time staff assistant in his Los Angeles District Office. The staff assistant is the primary administrative staff member in the district office. Job responsibilities include answering phones, opening mail, supporting the district staff, conducting constituent research and drafting correspondence.
