Invitation to Apply to State Bar Litigation Section Executive Committee - Deadline is February 2, 2009
applications for appointments to the Executive Committee are being accepted through February 2, 2009.
The Word and PDF versions of the application is available here: Microsoft Word Application > PDF Version of Application >
More detailed information about the application and appointment process is available here: Detailed information >
We invite you to apply for appointment to the Litigation Section Executive Committee. The Application Form and information about the process is available at: http://calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_generic.jsp?cid=10121&id=1040
We continue our efforts to solicit applications from as diverse a pool of California attorneys as possible. We recognize the immense value of having a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds represented on the Executive Committee. By better reflecting our membership and the community we serve, we can more effectively implement programs to benefit all California lawyers and Californians generally.
The Executive Committee comprises 15 attorney members as well as over a dozen judicial and attorney advisors. The Executive Committee oversees all aspects of the Litigation Section (the State Bar's largest section with over 10,000 active members), including with respect to rules and legislation affecting litigation in California, the publication of California Litigation Review, Litigation Magazine and Litigation Update, the Legal London and Legal Asia exchange program, the Law Suits clothing donation program, and much more. Membership on the Executive Committee offers a valuable opportunity to become involved with the statewide Bar; contribute to the community; and network with attorneys, judges, and others involved in the legal profession. We have enjoyed our time on the Committee both for the professional benefits and the personal friendships. We highly recommend the experience. Additional information about the Litigation Section can be found at: http://calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_generic.jsp?cid=10711&id=8390
Please share this letter and application with your colleagues who might be interested. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of us.

Volunteer Judges Needed for Chapman Moot Court Competition
On Friday, January 16 and Saturday, January 17, 2009, Chapman University School of Law will host the national finals of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association's undergraduate competition. Students from the top 64 teams from around the country will be competing in this moot court competition involving First Amendment and Due Process issues.
With 64 teams competing and 8 total rounds, we will need more than 100 volunteers to judge the competition. The panels will be made up of real world judges as well as practicing attorneys and faculty/students from Chapman. This is an opportunity to help judge some of the nation's best undergraduate students.
We need your help to judge this important national competition. We would need about 2-3 hours of your time for one or more of the judging blocks on either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Please note that we will provide a fully researched bench brief that will expedite your preparation time and eliminate the need for any new research. You will also be sitting on a panel with one or two additional judges.
Please send me an email at your earliest convenience ([email protected]) with your available time preference (see below). As the competitions get a little closer, I will send you a packet with all necessary information, including the bench brief and judging instructions.
____Three one-hour preliminary rounds on Friday January 16, 2009, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
____Three one-hour intermediate rounds on Saturday January 17, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Thank you for your time and assistance. These competitions are invaluable learning experiences for the students and a great way to give back to the profession.
Sincerely,
David Finley, Esq. Director of Law School Communications Chapman University School of Law One University Drive, Orange, CA 92866 Tel: 714-628-2565 Fax: 714-628-2602 Cell: 714-501-3676 [email protected] |
