The HBA is honored to announce the names of the 2007 Wally Davis Scholarship recipients:
Mayte Santacruz Benavides: 3rd year at Boalt, graduate of Century High School in Santa Ana & UC Irvine, & past Wally Davis Scholarship recipient
Carolina Rodriguez Garcia: 1st year at Boalt, graduate of Century High School in Santa Ana, UC Irvine & Columbia University (Masters)
Joseph Macias: 1st year at Columbia, graduate of Manoche High in Porterville & UC Irvine
The BARBRI scholarship is awarded to Araceli Gonzalez, 3rd year at Bringham Young University & past Wally Davis Scholarship recipient

Honorable James O. Perez in the News!
The Honorable James O. Perez was featured in Sunday's Edition of the Orange County Register. HBA member, Judge James O. Perez, is the first Latino judge in Orange County and was named a judge in 1965 by former Governor Pat Brown. Judge James Perez continues to sit on assignment in the North Court of Orange County's Superior Court. His son, the Honorable Joe T. Perez, also an HBA member, was recently selected to serve as Commissioner. Judge James Perez was the recipient of the HBA's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. The HBA proudly congratulates Judge James Perez and his family for such a noteworthy feature story! | Eric M. Alderete Named La Raza Lawyers President!
Congratulations to HBA Board Member, Eric M. Alderete, who was sworn in during the State Bar Convention as the 2007-2008 President for the California La Raza Lawyers Association. Alderete is Vice President and Senior Counsel for Downey Savings and Loan and currently serves as a Commissioner for the City of Santa Ana's Planning Commission. In addition to serving on the HBA Board, Alderete has served as board member for the Los Angeles Mexican American Bar Association (MABA). The HBA enthusiastically congratulates Eric and his family!

The National Latino Congreso 2007 will bring together hundreds of Latino organizations, elected officials, and community leaders to address issues impacting the Latino community. The OCBA recently announced its slate of candidates for the upcoming election for Board Members and Officers. The election will close at 2:30 p.m. on October 16th. Elected members will be sworn into office at the OCBA's Annual Judges Night dinner on January 17, 2008.
