Showpieces

As we announced back in May, this year we are creating a different showpiece for each show on our schedule. Each bears a special impressed mark for that particular show. A maximum of 30 showpieces per show will be made. All showpiece orders must be placed in person at the show. You may have someone else place your order for you, but payment must be made at time of order. There is a limit of 2 per customer. We will ship the order to whomever you wish when it's ready (shipping, handling, and insurance is $45 for each piece; free shipping does not apply).  Read more about showpieces

For the previous two shows (Arts & Crafts Chicago and SF Modernism), we did not reveal the showpiece ahead of time. For the next two shows, however, we will. The showpieces for the Twin Cities and Pasadena Heritage shows will be revealed on our Facebook page about 10 days prior to the start of the show.

We will also send an email announcement/ show reminder to subscribers of the appropriate interest list. To receive the Twin Cities show email, you must be subscribed to the SHOWS & EVENTS: MIDWEST interest list. For the Pasadena Heritage show, it is the SHOWS & EVENTS: WEST COAST list. To check to see if you are subscribed to those lists, or to add those lists to your email subscription, click the Update Profile/Email Address link at the bottom of this email.

We will not be announcing the special limited edition piece for the Grand Opening Celebration for Ephraim Pottery West in advance.

Our Winter Holiday Series piece will be announced in advance and will be sold in the same manner as in previous years (25 available at the Holiday Pottery Fest, 25 available by email or postcard entry). Details will be announced in our November newsletter.

If you have any questions, please email Kristin C. We hope to see you at one or more of these events!

Greetings! ,

Welcome to the September issue of News & Notes. The heat of summer is waning, the kids are back to school, and the days are getting shorter. We've had some cool, clear mornings this week. As I let the dogs out, I noticed a faint odor of decaying leaves clinging to the heavy morning dew. One tiny, cotton-puff cloud seemed to smile down at me from the clear blue sky. Fall makes me happy. I hope it makes you happy, too.

Thank you for your ongoing interest in Ephraim Pottery - we appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Kristin

Biggest retirement in EFP history now underway

43 pieces being retired in two phases this fall

Tree of Hope vase
The Tree of Hope vase will retire on December 14, unless it sells out its edition before then.

Ephraim Pottery's biggest retirement in history is now underway. A total of 43 pieces will be retired in two phases by the end of this year.

Several issues factored into the decision to retire this many pieces. First of all, our retirements have not kept up with our introductions. We have been introducing many more pieces each year than we retire, resulting in a net increase in the number of pieces we offer - currently nearly 100, not including tiles. We have not, however, had a corresponding increase in the number of artists we employ. As many of you know, we are not a large production pottery with many workers. We have 7 full-time and 1 part-time artists, divided fairly evenly between potters and glazers. The large number of offerings coupled with the small number of artists has made trying to figure out what needs to be made, by when, and by whom, complicated and time-consuming. Our goal is to make scheduling everyone's work and serving our customers quicker and simpler. Frankly, we would rather spend time on tasks that are more productive - and fun - than pushing paper... like, maybe, creating some new pottery and tile designs!

We understand that many of you will want to order several of these pieces before they retire. By dividing them into two groups with different deadlines, we hope to make it easier for you to budget and plan your purchases. The deadlines are staggered two months apart. We tried to put most pieces that were not previously in the Old Favorites collection into the second group in order to give you the most notice possible.

ORDERING DEADLINES:

5:00 p.m. CDT on Monday, October 15 (first group)

5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, December 14 (second group)

You can place your order online anytime between now and the deadline. If you prefer to order by phone, you can call us toll free at 1-888-704-POTS (7687) between 9 and 5 CDT, Monday through Friday.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Thanks!

Special pieces offered online

Latest offerings include experimentals and glaze variations

From now on, when we have special items to offer online, we will now be dividing them into two categories: Experimental Pieces and Quick Clicks.

As experimental pieces become available, they will be posted in the online store under the heading of - you guessed it - Experimental Pieces. Pieces other than experimentals will be posted under the Quick Clicks heading.

What kinds of pieces might be posted in the Quick Clicks section? This will be the place where we feature items such as glaze variations, seconds, irregulars, and special limited editions.

At the time this email was sent, there were items posted in both categories in the online store. Click the appropriate heading to see the available offerings:

If you have any questions, please contact Kristin C. Thank you.

New look for Retired & Discontinued web page

Updated format more inclusive, organized

Last year, we announced that we would be replacing the old format for the listing of retired and discontinued pieces on ephraimpottery.com. This page of our website was recently reformatted and updated.  View the new page

All of our back catalogs are now accessible on the web in PDF format. Additional pages are being created to list and show different categories of pieces that weren't in the catalogs, including showpieces, the Winter Holiday Series, the CERF Flower Series, and the Bird Series. The Historical Item Listing (PDF) and the Marks page have also been updated.

Using these resources in combination should allow collectors to be able to identify most pieces they encounter. For pieces marked with an "E", or for any other piece that can't be identifed, collectors are asked to email Kristin C. for help with identification.

We hope that having these additional resources at your disposal enriches your experience of collecting our pottery and tile. If you have any questions or suggestions, please email Kristin C. Thank you.
