Greetings! ,

Welcome to the July issue of News & Notes. I don't know about you, but I feel like the summer is flying by. It's been a hot, dry summer here in Lake Mills, as it has in many other parts of the country. Many of you may not know that our main studio is not air-conditioned. With the indoor temperatures almost reaching the outdoor temps of 100+ for several days in a row, it's been a grueling few weeks for our artists. The kiln room topped out at 116 degrees - fortunately, no one has to spend too long in there at a stretch. This afternoon we finally got some much-needed rain, and with an outdoor temperature of *only* 90, we're rejoicing.

We hope you're finding ways to stay cool and enjoy the summer. Thank you for your ongoing interest in Ephraim Pottery - we appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Kristin

New entrant wins photo contest

Top photo chosen from over 200 submitted

Grand Prize photo
David Wroblewski's photo of the Evergreen Woodfern vase took this year's Grand Prize

Each year, Ephraim Faience Pottery invites amateur photographers to participate in a photo contest. The photos submitted show how Ephraim Faience pottery and tile reflect and complements the changing seasons, both outdoors and in the home. The winning photographs will appear in next year's Ephraim Faience Pottery Collectors' Calendar.

Twenty-two contestants submitted over 200 photos to this year's contest. Photos were judged on their originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and seasonal representation.

We are pleased to announce that David Wroblewski of Indianapolis, Indiana, took this year's Grand Prize with the photo shown above. First Prizes were awarded to Steve Splittgerber and David Wroblewski, with additional awards going to Janet Akcakal, Julie Buccheim and John Hilbrink, Jane Tormey, and Kara Westby. You can view all the winning photos on our Photo Contest page.

Gift certificates were awarded to the prize winners and honorable mentions. Photographers with featured photos will also receive 2013 calendar. Thanks to all the entrants, and congratulations to the winners!

The 2013 edition of the Ephraim Faience Pottery Collectors' Calendar will be available in early fall.
