Mark McPherson won Second Prize for Spring in last year's contest with this lovely photo.

Ephraim Faience Pottery invites amateur photographers to participate in its annual photo contest. The beauty of nature as it changes through the seasons is a great source of inspiration for our artists. Photos submitted for the contest should show how Ephraim Faience pottery and tile reflects and complements the changing seasons, either outdoors or in the home.

Photos will be judged on their originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and seasonal representation. The winning photographs will appear in the 2013 Ephraim Faience Pottery Collectors' Calendar.

See our website for complete rules and contest information.

The finalists will be  posted on our Facebook page by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 15. Facebook voting will be open through Thursday, May 31. The winners will be announced on Facebook on Friday, June 15.

New pottery & tiles now online

Six new pieces and more tile options now available

New Ephraim pots
New pottery pieces for April - Sleeping Bear Paperweight, Spring Arrowroot, Wild Violet, Golden Ginkgo, Tranquility, and Small Wonder

As many of you know, for the past several years we introduced a large group of new pieces once a year in June. This year, we will be introducing smaller groups of pieces at more frequent intervals.

Our first group of new pottery and tile for 2012 is online now and is available for order. We will also offer a selection of these pieces at our upcoming shows (see sidebar).

This year, introductions and retirements will be announced by email and will be presented on our website. New pieces will be introduced in small groups (5-6) four times a year - in April, June, August, and October. The retirement of small groups of pieces will be announced in May, July, September, and November. Our work is dynamic and ever-changing, and this schedule will allow us to present new pieces to you on a regular basis. There will be something new going on each month, so you'll want to make sure to read our emails!

We know that you don't want to miss out on anything new, so we will be sending out full-color mailers showing the newest pottery and tiles in June and October. As always, you can check our online store at any time to view all of the pieces that are currently available.

We hope you enjoy our new pottery and tile as much as we enjoy making it for you! View the new pottery and tiles

Ephraim Pottery to open second store

New California gallery to open in June

We are very excited to announce that we are opening a new gallery on the west coast. Our second

Cambria seaside
The Pacific coast at Cambria

store will be located in Cambria, California, which is about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Along scenic coastal Highway 1

Forbes.com calls Cambria "one of America's prettiest towns." Just minutes from the famous Hearst Castle, surrounded by the beauty of nature and brimming with art galleries, Cambria is a popular destination for tourists and natives alike.

Ephraim Pottery's gallery will be located at 728 Main Street, on one of Cambria's main thoroughfares. We plan to open

Future store

to the public sometime during the week of June 11. We'll keep you updated as the date approaches.

Our Cambria gallery

will carry our full line of pottery and tile and the occasional second or irregular. Experimental pieces will be added to the inventory later this year. We look forward to adding our work to the town's great artistic mix.

If you live in California or are traveling in the area, we hope you will stop in

Cambria and pay us a visit. We look forward to welcoming you to our new gallery.

A new direction for shows, showpieces, & experimentals
Shows get a makeover just in time for the new season

We're heading in an exciting new direction this year when it comes to shows, showpieces, and experimentals. Just as we all need change to stretch and grow as individuals, companies also need change in order to thrive.

As we head into the 2012-13 show season, we're excited to introduce a new format for shows and a new concept for showpieces. Beginning with Arts & Crafts Chicago on June 2, we will be offering a different showpiece at each of the shows listed in the sidebar at left. Each will be a numbered edition of no more than 30 pieces plus an artist's proof. The artist's proof will be on display and we will take orders for up to 30 more pieces, which will be made after the show and shipped to customers. You can read more about the new showpiece concept on our website.

We're also changing the way we make and sell experimental pieces. Because experimentals are very time-consuming and labor-intensive to make, we'll be creating fewer of them this year and will not be selling them at the shows listed at left. Instead, we'll be providing expanded access to experimentals via our online store and our two galleries. Any interested customer - no matter where they live - will have the opportunity to purchase experimental pieces in our online store.

As experimentals become available, they will be divided amongst the three stores. New experimentals will start trickling in to our Lake Mills gallery in mid May, and Cambria will begin receiving them later this year. We will begin posting experimentals in our online store in July. The experimentals for sale in our Lake Mills and Cambria galleries will be available to walk-in customers only and will not be sold by phone or email.

We hope that these changes will make attending shows more enjoyable and improve customer access to experimentals. Show-goers will be able to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere in our booth while still having the opportunity to get a special piece. Customers who cannot attend shows or visit our stores will now be able to purchase the occasional experimental. We hope that our customers will benefit from and enjoy these changes.
