Welcome to the March issue of News & Notes. I'm so happy to be able to share the great news that spring has arrived early in southern Wisconsin. We are expecting a week of unseasonably warm weather. No winter coats needed this week! The robins, red-winged blackbirds, and sandhill cranes are back, staking out their territories and singing up a storm. I've even noticed a few daffodils beginning to poke up.

Ephraim Faience Pottery invites amateur photographers to participate in its annual photo contest. The beauty of nature as it changes through the seasons is a great source of inspiration for our artists. Photos submitted for the contest should show how Ephraim Faience pottery and tile reflects and complements the changing seasons, either outdoors or in the home.

 

Photos will be judged on their originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and seasonal representation. The winning photographs will appear in the 2013 Ephraim Faience Pottery Collectors' Calendar.

 

This year there will be three components to the judging, each contributing one-third of the total score. First, we will divide the entries into categories by season. We will then choose 12 photos to represent each season. We will post these photos on our Facebook page and let our fans vote for their favorites by "liking" them. The Facebook voting will constitute one-third of the final score. The Ephraim Pottery staff will vote on their favorites, for another third of the total score. An impartial judge from the Lake Mills business community will contribute the final third of the score.

 

Winners will be awarded Ephraim Pottery gift certificate and a free calendar.  Entrants who have one or more photos selected to be featured on a date square will also receive a free calendar. A complete list of prizes to be awarded can be found on our website.

 

The deadline for entry is midnight on Monday, April 30. The finalists will be  posted on our Facebook page by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 15. Facebook voting will be open through Thursday, May 31. The winners will be announced on Facebook on Friday, June 15.
