The Tiffany Girls | |

Clara Driscoll was the head of the women's department at Tiffany Studios from 1892 to 1909. The discovery of Clara's extensive correspondence about her work shook the world of Tiffany scholarship by identifying her as the originator of the idea for Tiffany's stained glass lamp shades. She designed many of Tiffany's most famous shades, and the women in her department were extensively involved in creating many of Tiffany's most popular items. It's a fascinating story that illuminates social conventions and the role of women at the turn of the 20th century.
To learn more about this topic, we suggest the following books:
A New Light on Tiffany: Clara Driscoll & the Tiffany Girls, NY Historical Society, 2007*
Clara & Mr. Tiffany, a novel by Susan Vreeland published in 2011
* Available at the Ephraim Pottery Gallery for $49.95. |

January Quick Clicks: Post-holiday savings
Great prices on experimental ornaments, seconds, irregulars, more

Everyone needs a great deal after the holidays, and we've got them for you on this month's Quick Clicks. We are offering the remaining stock of experimental ornaments from our gallery. With the retirement of our ornament line last month, we don't plan to offer any ornaments again until holiday-time. So if you missed the deadline or just want to add some great ornaments to your collection, you'll want to check these out.
Other post-holiday deals include a handful of very reasonably priced experimentals and a nice selection of seconds and irregulars at discounted prices. This is a great opportunity to get some beautiful pieces at 25% to 50% off the retail price. Don't miss out - "click quick" now!
A gentle reminder: Please remember to complete the check-out process as quickly as possible after you've put your Quick Clicks items in your cart. You haven't purchased your items until you've completed check out, so you'll want to check out quickly in order to increase the odds of getting the item(s) you want. |

New year, new tiles! | | |
New tile line to launch on January 23
As those of you who have visited our gallery or attended one of our shows over the past year probably know, we have been hard at work developing a new line of tile. We are happy to announce that we will be introducing the first 10 tiles in our new collection online later this month.
One of the reasons that this project has been so time-consuming is that we developed a completely new and different process of creating tile. When we previously made tile (1998 to 2004), we used a 15-ton hydraulic press. Instead of smashing our clay into submission, we have developed a kindler, gentler hand-pressing method that allows us more creativity in the process. Another change is that our new tiles will now be made in limited editions of no more than 500; our previous tiles were not limited in number. We are also expanding our stylistic range beyond our faience glazes and raised line designs, although the new collection will include tiles in these traditional styles, as well.
Ten Days of Tile will begin on Monday, January 23. One new tile will be introduced in our online store each weekday from January 23 through February 3. Our new tile line takes our work in some exciting new directions that we can't wait to share with you. We hope you'll mark your calendar, check out our new tile line, and let us know what you think. |

It's (almost) The Last Hurrah
Twenty pieces to retire soon
| |
The Climbing Black Bear will be retired soon. |
One of the things that makes Ephraim pottery so special is the fact that our pieces aren't available forever. Each vase (and our new tiles; see above) is a limited edition, and at some point it will be retired or discontinued. No more than 500 first-quality pieces of each design will ever be made. If you spread that number out across all 50 states, that would be an average of only 10 pieces per state - and most pieces are retired well before they sell out their edition! That means each piece of Ephraim pottery is relatively rare.
How does a retirement work?
- We set an ordering deadline. A cut-off time and date is announced. Our ordering deadlines are firm and absolutely no orders are accepted after the deadline.
- Next, we make the pieces needed to fill the orders, if we don't already have them in stock. We usually make a few extra pieces in case any turn out as seconds or irregulars.
- We ship the pieces to the customers who placed their orders prior to the deadline.
- If we have any extra pieces, seconds, or irregulars, we generally send them up to our gallery. Sometimes we make them available for sale on Quick Clicks. When they're gone, they're gone - no more are made.
The pieces shown online in The Last Hurrah collection will be retiring soon. A specific ordering deadline will be announced next month. In the meantime, please check out these pieces and plan your order. Better yet, place your order now so that you don't forget. After each retirement, we receive calls from disappointed customers who missed the deadline, sometimes by as little as 5 minutes. Don't be that person - shop The Last Hurrah now!
If you'd like to place your order by phone, you can call us toll free at 1-888-704-POTS (7687). If you'd like to talk to a live human being, call between 9 and 5 CT, Monday through Friday. Thanks! |
