John Raymond

John Raymond officially celebrates his 10th anniversary with EFP this month. When John started, it was just days after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and the future looked very uncertain. But John didn't second-guess his decision to join Ephraim. "I felt like my prayers had been answered," he has said.

With John at its helm, the glazing department has made remarkable artistic strides over the past decade. John has selected some of his favorite pieces from the past 10 years to be included in our new fall exhibit which opens later this month (see below).

To read more of John's reflections on his time with Ephraim, and to view his Artist Anniversary Series piece, the Indian Summer Vase, please click here.

New Fall Exhibit

Our exhibit and demonstration area features seasonally changing exhibits. Our fall exhibit, which goes on display later this month, will include:
  • Featured Artist: John Raymond
  • Pottery Introduced in 2001
  • A Bountiful Harvest

Please come downstairs and view the exhibit when you're in town.

Giant Calla Lily floor vase to be auctioned for CERF+

EBay Giving Works auction Sept. 19-29

This month Ephraim Pottery will be conducting a fundraising eBay auction to benefit the Craft giant callaEmergency Relief Fund (CERF+). The stunning floor vase shown at right will be put up for auction on eBay on September 19th as a Giving Works item, with 50% of the net proceeds from the auction being donated to help craftspeople facing career-threatening emergencies. The auction will run for 10 days and will end September 29th.

You may remember seeing this piece in greenware when it was part of our spring exhibit that featured artist Paul McVicker. Paul threw the enormous vase and sculptor Laura Klein added gorgeous calla lilies and curved handles. We had to add height to one of our kilns in order to fire it. After it came through the bisque firing, Paul glazed it, and it was fired again. It came through all the firings intact and turned out just beautifully.

This one-of-a-kind floor vase is one of the largest pieces we've ever created. Its size is perhaps equaled only by CERF+'s need for assistance this year. Hurricane Irene and flooding on the east coast have caused widespread devastation and requests for assistance have already begun to roll in. We hope you will consider bidding on this unique piece and help us raise funds for craftspeople in need. Thank you!

If you would like to support CERF+ directly, please go to http://www.craftemergency.org for information on how you can help.

Quick Clicks online promotion off to a fast start

Review our tips for a smooth QC shopping experience

Our first Quick Clicks online promotion got off to a fast start. Customers were shopping as soon as the items went live. The online store software worked as it was designed to, and, with a few exceptions, the transactions went smoothly. Each piece of software has its unique quirks, and our online store software is no exception. Before this month's Quick Clicks promotion begins, we'd like to offer a few tips that we hope will help make your shopping experience pleasant, efficient, and ultimately, successful.

  • The first customer to successfully complete the checkout process gets the item.

As we noted in our email announcing Quick Clicks, more than one person can add a particular one-of-a-kind item to their cart. The item remains available to potential buyers until someone who has it in their cart COMPLETES CHECKOUT. Putting an item into your cart does not reserve it for you. Starting the checkout process does not reserve it for you. You have to go through the FULL checkout process before anyone else who has the same item in their cart does. This includes entering your payment information, clicking the Confirm Order button, and having your payment successfully processed.

  • Set up your account before you begin shopping.
In order to be able to check out as quickly as possible, we suggest that you set up a customer account in our online store beforehand. You can set up an account quickly and easily, with or without making a purchase. From our online store, click My Account (located on the upper right) and follow the prompts.

  • Log in to your account before you shop.
Before you begin your Quick Clicks shopping, go to the online store and log in to your account.

  • Pay with the quickest method.
During the checkout process, choose whichever method of payment is quickest for you to enter. You have the option of paying with a credit card or using PayPal.

  • Check back again the following month.
As the old saying goes, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!" New items will be posted to Quick Clicks every month. We will be offering a variety of items, and not all will be "onesies." There will be offerings with higher quantities and other limited editions. We encourage you to keep checking back.

Please contact us if you need help setting up an account in our online store or if you encounter any problems. We will do our best to help you.

We plan to introduce this month's Quick Clicks promotion on Thursday, September 22. We hope you'll check it out!
