Welcome to our new monthly e-newsletter, News & Notes. We'll be keeping you up-to-date on our latest news, upcoming events, and promotions. August is always a busy month, what with back-to-school and squeezing in those last vacations of summer. At Ephraim, we're no exception, with two shows, new promotions, and much more coming up. So, read on - we'll fill you in on all of it.

Shows this month in San Francisco & Madison

SF Modernism

California, here we come (again)! We'll be at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco on August 13-14 for the newly named - and newly expanded - SF Modernism show. Our booth will have a great selection of pieces in all the new glazes, as well as experimentals and tiles. (Please note that all of the experimentals will be available for sale when the show opens at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.) Don't miss it if you're in the area - it should be a lot of fun!

Then it's back to Wisconsin, where on August 27 we'll head 20 miles west to Madison for the annual Wisconsin Pottery Association Show at the Alliant Center. There will be a sprinkling of glaze variations available at this show. Our gallery will also be open regular hours that day (10-5) for visitors who want to make a pilgrimage to Lake Mills.

Selection of "special" pieces soon to be available online

While it can be argued that all of our pieces are special, there have been some pieces that until now have only been available at our retail gallery and at shows. A changing selection of special limited editions, experimentals, tiles, seconds, irregulars, miniatures, glaze variations, retired/discontinued gallery overstock, etc. will be offered for sale in our online store beginning later this month. This "Buy It Now" section will replace the Gallery Games email program, which will no longer be offered.

Please note: These types of "special" pieces will still be available in our gallery and at shows. Only a portion of these pieces will be sold online.
Ephraim debuts new logo

Craftsman-style logo reflects studio's Arts & Crafts design focus

You may have noticed the appearance of a new logo in Ephraim's recent magazine ads. Our new highway "attraction" signs provided the impetus for a redesign. We needed a logo that would be more legible at a distance (not to mention high speeds!) and would better convey the style of art pottery we create.  We think that this Craftsman-style graphic, with its mortise-and-tenon "frame" and oak swag, fits the bill.

We are not, however, completely retiring our old round logo. You will continue to see it in use here and there, including in our pottery marks.

EFP thanks both old and new customers

Ephraim Pottery would like to extend a warm welcome to the more than 300 new customers who have made their first purchases in 2011. We are excited that so many new people are discovering our pottery. It helps us keep our work vibrant and exciting and inspires us to continue experimenting and moving forward.

It was exciting to see so many collectors at the Ephraim Faience Pottery Collectors Society annual convention in June. People came from across the country to enjoy seminars, a special pieces sale, a banquet and silent auction, and other fun events and camaraderie with their fellow collectors.

We would like to thank all of our customers, both old and new, for choosing to collect art made by living American artists. It is all of you who enable us to fulfill our calling. We hope that our pottery brings beauty, joy, and meaning to your life.
Giant Calla Lily Vase to be auctioned for CERF

giant callaEBay auction to be held mid-September

This year, instead of resuming our Flower Series, we have decided to auction off one piece on eBay and donate 50% of the net proceeds to the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+). Some of you will remember seeing this piece in greenware when it was part of our spring exhibit that featured artist Paul McVicker. Height was added to one of our kilns and Paul glazed and fired it. The finished piece was displayed at the EFPCS convention this past June. This stunning floor vase will be auctioned in mid-September through eBay's Giving Works program. More details will be announced in September, so keep an eye on your inbox and our Facebook page to find out when the auction goes live.
