"Your e-cards are fantastic. There is something there for everyone even if they are not a horse lover. The melding of your pictures with the words you write and Vicky's music is unbelievably beautiful and spiritual." ~ Carol C.
"I'm very impressed with how you can capture the movements, the elegance, the impulse together with the characteristic lines of their faces, and reflections on their moving muscles." ~ Judit N.
"I love the new cards, among all the other fun things. Thanks for keeping the price so reasonable" ~ Julie A.

Recent Praise
You know how sometimes on certain days, for only a very brief moment in time, everything clicks together and somehow the world reveals itself in all it's magical and inspirational wonder? Those simple moments where a sunbeam falls just right, and you find yourself looking at life in a completely different way? Where the Other suddenly becomes clear and Tangible? Kim captures these moments. My personal favorites are "Territory," "Stillness," and "First Snow". In these very realistic paintings, Kim manages to go beyond simply rendering the exact likeness of an animal. Instead, she shows how an everyday scene can suddenly become charged with meaning. ~ Marina Dawson Thank you Marina!!

The Unseen Realms ~
A workshop with Kim McElroy and Sandra Wallin
I am excited to announce a new collaboration with my gifted and heartfull friend Sandra and her horses at her beautiful Chiron's Way center near Vancouver, Canada.
Horses are like unicorns - their gifts lie in the world of in-betweens. In perceiving their magic, horses teach us to "see" with our entire mind, body and spirit. This body-centered awareness connects us with our intuition, allowing access to unseen and magical realms... read more>>

Secrets of Drawing Horses DVD inspires learning disabled kids
Praise from Kimbra Kern - a speech therapist who teaches a social communication skills class to kids with learning disabilities
"I showed my class the beginning of your dvd - including the Introduction, Insights, and the Exercise Drawing to Music. Out of the 5 students Ciarra was the only one who has ever drawn a horse and I had encouraged her to draw with your dvd. I had no idea if this activity would even fly with the other students as they weren't necessarily interested in horses, but I was in tears watching them draw. For 15 minutes straight all they did was draw and not one single word was uttered. At the end, they all wanted to put their pictures up on the bulletin board and for 5 minutes they just stared at their art saying, "I can't believe I did this." "I never thought I could draw a horse." One student wanted copies to share with his teachers and family (he had previously been in trouble for drawing pictures of guns) They all wanted to do more drawing and learn more about the other exercises on your video. Ciarra drew a horse in an entire different style than what she had in the past and she was in awe of what she had done. I could see all of them more relaxed and centered when they left my class. It also seemed like this was a self-esteem booster for them. They've even been drawing on their own since! In addition, many of these students have anger management issues and they agreed this would be a way they could learn to calm their emotions."

From the Artist's Studio:
Many fans are surprised to learn that the medium I use to create my work is Soft Pastels otherwise known as Pastel Chalk. Most people aren't aware of what pastel is, thinking of the word "chalk" as related to the hard chalk we use on a chalkboard. Also many people consider pastels to be "pastel" light and soft colors and are surprised they can be so rich in hue and varied in vibrancy. Pastels do not fade, and will last for hundreds of years when framed properly behind glass. Original pastels are incredibly three-dimensional and vibrant. It is an fun and versatile medium - allowing for both spontaneous expression and exquisite realistic detail. Rather than mixing colors as with paints, I prefer to use the pure pigments of the colors in my pastels sets. I have over 1,000 individual colors of pastels in several brands. One common misconception is that pastel needs to be sprayed with a fixative. I use papers with a soft sanded texture or "tooth" which holds the pastel in place. It is useful to spray a light finishing touch on a piece upon completion, however too much spray can darken and damage the original.

Here are some interesting facts about pastel from Wikipedia.com:
- The color effect of pastels is closer to the natural dry pigments than that of any other process.
- The name "pastel" comes from ML pastellum (neut.) woad (orig. woad paste), for LL pastellus (masc.), dim. of pasta: paste. The French word pastel first appeared in 1662.
- Most brands produce gradations of a color, the original pigment of which tends to be dark, from pure pigment to near-white by mixing in differing quantities of chalk. This mixing of pigments with chalks is the origin of the word "pastel" in reference to "pale color" as it is commonly used in cosmetic and fashion venues.
- When fully covered with pastel, the work is called a pastel painting; when not, a pastel sketch or drawing. Pastel paintings, being made with a medium that has the highest pigment concentration of all, reflect light without darkening refraction, allowing for very saturated colors.

Personal News
Last month was my mare Darma's 17th birthday. It is so amazing to think that I got her as an ex-racehorse at the age of 4, and that we've come so very far together. As I fed her some birthday carrots the dogs took off barking, and something made me look up - and an eagle was just completing its low glide over our heads, up to the knoll and into the trees. It was such a miracle, its appearance made even more profound by the memories of when eagles have appeared for us before.
Of the day in 1999 when we bought our new farm, a place I had dreamt of that Darma would be free to run. Rod and I sat on the knoll, overlooking our new land. I ran down the hill visualizing Darma's freedom, and an eagle flew low right over me, continuing the angle of my path and soaring the length of the pasture to alight on the tree marking our property line. Then when later that evening back at our rental house where Darma lived, I was telling Darma about her new home to be, and I heard an eagle cry and there was an eagle circling over our heads....
Darma led us to our life here at SkyeLandeSea, and to the rescues of 26 other animal beings who have found their way us. My quest to heal her and myself, has led us to countless profound experiences and connections with people the world over. I am forever grateful for her in my life.
Until next time, may the Horse be with you... Kim McElroy
