What a beautiful afternoon it was last Sunday as approximately 30 live music fans came out to hear Yazmín kick off the Rookery's 2012 outdoor music series! Her music was a hit, as was our new patio grill menu. And despite the fact we've added a spacious tent this season to better protect spectators from sun and light precipitation, it didn't hurt that Sunday offered a brief respite from several days of torrential rain up here in the Northwoods.
Looks like we're in luck again this coming weekend. Sunday is looking to be one of our nicest days in quite a spell...mostly clear with temperatures of 70 to 75 degrees. Another great day for live outdoor music!
This weekend we welcome back Rudy Rudesill on Sunday from 2-5 PM. Rudy performed at the Rookery once last summer and again over Birkie weekend in February. He's a very entertaining singer/songwriter who grew up in small town Wisconsin and now lives in the Twin Cities. He plays songs from Hank Williams and Johnny Cash to Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt. From Buddy Holly to The Eagles and Stones. From Marshall Tucker to Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffett. Old favorites from Neil Young, Paul Simon, Steve Goodman and almost always a Grateful Dead song or two. Plus a few of his own songs mixed in.
On his website Rudy calls the Rookery "one of my all-time favorite places to play." Cool! We're glad he likes playing here because we sure like hearing him play. And so will you!
This will be just the second performance in the Rookery's first full season of Summer Sunday Serenades. Already 15 of 17 planned dates of live outdoor music are booked with a wonderful and diverse lineup of performers. From acoustic guitar to keyboard. Folk to blues. Jazz to mountain gospel. Americana to Broadway. Even belly dancing.
And this summer we've also introduced a brand new patio grill menu to add further sensory delight to the outdoor music festival atmosphere. Live outdoor music permeated by the wafting aromas of grilling food at TripAdvisor's #1 Rated Area Restaurant. What better way to savor a summer Sunday afternoon!
The Rookery's Summer Sunday Serenades are scheduled each Sunday afternoon (plus Labor day) from 2-5 PM. All performances are free, though gratuities for the musicians are most appreciated. For a full schedule of performances check out our online music calendar.
Last Call For Copper River Salmon
As discussed when we last featured this fish several weeks ago, salmon from Alaska's Copper River are widely recognized as some of the world's best-eating due to their high fat and oil content. One taste of this firm red fish, with its rich and nutty flavor, and you will understand why food lovers relish the three to four weeks that fresh Copper River salmon is available each year.
Unfortunately, that short season is nearing an end. But lucky for you, the Rookery has snagged some of the last fresh Copper River salmon of the year. And Chef Mike has come up with an all-new recipe to pique your tastebuds this weekend.
Fresh Copper River sockeye salmon, lemon miso encrusted with Israeli couscous, mango & avocado salad, and a light scallion oil. Thursday thru Sunday, or until it sells out (call ahead to reserve). Only at the Rookery!
Summer Hours Now in Effect
The Rookery has now resumed our 7 nights a week dinner schedule, plus lunch on weekends. See below for specific hours and nightly specials.
