American Youth Philharmonic to Perform Concert of "Russian Storytellers"
The American Youth Philharmonic (AYP) and Music Director Daniel Spalding take the stage for "Russian Storytellers" on Sunday, April 15, 3:00 p.m. at the Center for the Arts at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Concert repertoire includes Baba-Yaga, Op. 56 and The Enchanted Lake, Legend for Orchestra, Op. 62 by Liadov; The Distant Princess, Op. 4 by Tcherepnin; an arrangement by Rimsky-Korsakov of Moussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, Fantasy for Orchestra; and Petrushka (1911) by Stravinsky.
"These late Romantic and early Twentieth Century Russian composers are experts at painting scenes and telling stories by utilizing a rich orchestral palette, full of fireworks and passion," said Music Director Daniel Spalding. "If you like music full of excitement and color, then you are going to love this program."
Tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for seniors (65+), $10 for students (including college with ID), free for ages 5 and under, and free for music teachers. Applicant should have at least two years of experience on the instrument and be currently enrolled in private lessons.
