Jacob will perform the world premiere of his composition Wanderer Fantasy for Piano and Large Orchestra (Symphony No. 4) and will hold a pre-concert lecture at 2:30 p.m., which is free with concert admission.
"When Daniel Spalding and the American Youth Philharmonic asked if I would write a work for their November 2011 program, I was ecstatic and deeply flattered for the opportunity to work with these extraordinarily talented young musicians," said Jeffrey Jacob. "I wanted to write a work that was very accessible but also challenging technically and musically for both the members of the orchestra and the audience... I imagined my work as the journey, the wanderings of a young man or woman threading his or her way through the baffling emotional complexities of youth and early adulthood."
"Jeffrey Jacob's Wanderer Fantasy is intensely romantic and extremely colorful," said Music Director Daniel Spalding. "It gives me great pride that the American

Youth Philharmonic was able to commission this work and I'm excited about the upcoming performance. The orchestra is enjoying it and I'm sure the audience will enjoy it as well."

A Peek Behind the Scenes Message from the President of the AYPO Board of Directors
We are committed to making AYPO the best youth orchestra program possible for the benefit of our musicians. In order to support this vision, our talented Board and the professional and resilient staff of AYPO have made many changes to the way we do business. We have begun the process of evaluating all our programs, including Music Buddies and the Chamber Ensemble programs, to ensure that our musicians are receiving the best training and exposure that we can provide. To that end, we are very excited to announce that our Percussion Ensemble won an audition to perform in the Music for All Percussion Festival in Indianapolis this March. Congratulations to Director Doug Wallace and all his fine musicians. I hope that the entire AYPO family will support our percussionists by attending their performances and by getting behind their other fundraisers. In the coming years, as we refashion our Chamber Ensemble program, we will use this mini tour as a model for our other groups. We envision preparing and sending small ensembles to competitions and festivals. AYP will perform in Baltimore at the Meyerhoff Hall this January. This also will be a mini tour, with an eye toward capacity building both for staff and the board. The musicians will both perform and attend a master class-and have some time for fun together. Why are we interested in capacity building? [ Continue Reading] |
