Spanish Infused Concert Brings in Youth

Come one, come all! This Sunday, AYPO will be offering free tickets for all youth ages 18 and under to attend Colores de Espaa, a concert featuring acclaimed guest pianist Orlando Alonso and highlighting works by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. Every season, AYPO offers free tickets to one concert as part of the "Comps for Kids" campaign, an outreach program that gives young people the opportunity to experienceAYCO cellists orchestral music as performed by their peers. The program serves to inspire future musicians and to show what they can accomplish muscially.

Maestro Luis Haza and the American Youth Philharmonic will welcome Cuban pianist Orlando Alonso for the performance of Nights in the Garden of Spain. Alonso, winner of several international piano competitions, has performed with major orchestras in North and South America including the Havana Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Brazil, and the Madrid Symphony. Alonso has given recitals at Carnegie Hall in New York and his future engagements include a tour of eight different cities in China.

Free youth tickets and regular admission tickets will be available at the concert venue approximately 30 minutes prior to the performance time. The next AYPO concert will take place on Sunday, February 22, 3:00pm at the Schlesinger Concert Hall and  will feature the American Youth Concert Orchestra led by J.D. Anderson, and the American Youth Symphonic Orchestra led by Carl J. Bianchi with guest artist Kevin Stees, tuba.

Support Comes from Within

Did you know that companies in the region are far more likely to support AYPO if they have an employee or employees who are tied to us? Many of you work for these leading businesses and could help AYPO just by finding out if...
  • ... your employer offers an employee Matching Gift Program. This is a wonderful way for you and your colleagues to double the impact of your gifts to AYPO! Our staff can work with you to navigate the matching gift procedures at your workplace.
  • ...your company has a community grants program.  AYPO can develop and manage the application process.
  • ...there is a way to help open a door to the right executive in your office involved in public relations, community relations, corporate contributions, or marketing, just to name a few. AYPO will follow up as appropriate.
We are currently working with several AYPO families to figure out strategies for requesting financial contributions from their companies. In most cases, our AYPO parents are able to help simply by directing us to the right contact person, and AYPO staff is doing the rest. We know how busy you are and don't want to add to your work load!

Please contact Tomoko Azuma at tazuma@aypo.org if you're willing to help us approach your company for this important aspect of our fundraising. We can't be successful without you!
