AYPO String Quartet Performs in Memory of September 11, 2001
On September 10, 2008, the Kong Quartet performed at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC for an event honoring the victims and families of September 11, 2001, hosted by the Pentagon Memorial Fund. As a non-profit organization since May 2003, the Pentagon Memorial Fund raises the private funds necessary to design, build, and maintain the Pentagon Memorial Park, which consists of a memorial unit for each of the 184 victims.
On a tall stage in front of more than 800 people, the Kong Quartet represented the high musical quality found in every AYPO musician, with the professionalism of an adult ensemble. The quartet is part of the AYPO Chamber Ensemble Program and has been together, rehearsing, for more than eight months. They plan on continuing to give outreach performances throughout the season.
The AYPO Chamber Ensemble program is an educational opportunity for musicians to learn about chamber music and performing in the community. In past seasons, chamber ensembles have performed at senior centers, art galleries, fundraising events, holiday receptions, weddings, and more. To request a chamber ensemble for your public or private event, contact Michelle Wallace at mwallace@aypo.org.

Grandparents Day
As a special offer this season, AYPO provided complimentary tickets for its musicians' grandparents to attend one of three featured performances in February, March, and April 2009. More than 1,600 tickets were provided for AYPO families, with a total value exceeding $10,000. AYPO's new initiative will connect generations of family members, build concert audiences for musicians, and broaden the organization's reach into the regional and national community.
AYPO Board President, Michael Blakeslee, backs the initiative stating that "AYPO students, without exception, come from strong, supportive families that include extended family members, particularly grandparents. Grandparents are quite possibly the most dedicated fans of our students' activities and we wish to recognize them with a special invitation to these concerts".
