Spotlight on AYPO Musicians

The spotlight shines on Lauren Hunt, 18 years old, principal horn player of AYP. Lauren is from Virginia and has been playing the horn for 8 years in addition to the cello for 14 years. Read on to learn more about this amazing musician!

Q: What do you learn from performing and why do you enjoy it?
I have learned so much from performing, from self- confidence to how to overcome nerves. I love music, and I try to share that with the audience when I play for them.

Q: What advice do you have for musicians just starting on the horn?
I think the most important thing to do as a musician is to relax, as hard as it might be. If you're tense, you can't get a good sound on any instrument, and you won't be able to get a full breath, which is essential to playing musically.

Musical Visions Chamber Series
Friday, April 13, 7:00pm at the Greater Reston Arts Center

AYPO and the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) created the Musical Visions Chamber Series in order to give young chamber musicians of AYPO the opportunity to perform in the community. Every month since November of 2006 there have been chamber ensembles performing at the GRACE art exhibits.

The AYCO String Quartet is made up of Rachel Kuprenas and Gabe Manion on the violin, Grayson Van Beuren on the viola, and Grace Jin on the cello. The quartet is coached by Tsuna Sakamoto of the National Symphony Orchestra. These talented, young musicians are sure to amaze you!

You can enjoy the beautiful sounds of the AYPO chamber ensembles on April 13 as well as May 24, 7pm at GRACE. We hope to see you there!
