Emanuel Ax

Polish-Canadian pianist Emanuel Ax studied at the Julliard School and captured public attention in 1974 when he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, Israel. In 1975, he won the Michaels Award of Young Concert Artists, followed four years later by the coveted Avery Fisher Prize.

Thirty-five years later, Emanuel Ax continues to captivate audiences around the world, appearing as soloist with major symphony orchestras, performing recitals in the most celebrated concert halls, collaborating with other major artists (including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzahk Perlman) in chamber music concerts, commissioning and performing new music (from composers such as John Adams, Peter Lieberson, and Osvaldo Golijov), and adding to his extensive discography on the Sony Classical label.

Mr. Ax is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and holds honorary doctorates of music from Yale and Columbia Universities.

The Washington Performing Arts Society will present Emanuel Ax in concert, Wednesday, November 10th at 8 PM at The Music Center at Strathmore.  For more information about the Strathmore performance: www.wpas.org.
