Josh_Bayer_MainTwo free concerts by Joshua Bayer Jazz will be presented on Saturday, May 22 at 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm at the Washington Conservatory of Music at Glen Echo Park. Tickets are free, but reservations are suggested. Donations will be accepted at the door.
   
Joshua Bayer Jazz will perform the premiere of a collection of new jazz works composed by Joshua Bayer in the traditions of Count Basie, Thelonious Monk, and J.S. Bach. Guitarist Joshua Bayer will be joined by Paul Carr, saxophone, Chris Battistone, trumpet, Bob Sykes, piano, Steve Novosel, bass, and Dominic Smith, drums. 
 
Joshua Bayer is a Washington DC jazz guitarist, bassist, and composer who has performed at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Detroit Opera House, Blues Alley, The Harlem Renaissance Festival, The World Jazz festival, The Phillips Collection, The Contemporary Theater Festival, The One Step Down, New York Museum of Modern Art, National Public Radio, and Philadelphia's Chris's Jazz Caf�. Besides being featured on BET on Jazz and performing original new jazz with the Joshua Bayer Quartet, Bayer has played with jazz artists Neal Creque, Dick Lurie, Gary Thomas, Ron Holloway, Marty Nau, The Walter Bell Latin Jazz Unit, The Federal Jazz Commission, and Chris Vadala.  His compositions have been published by C.F. Peters and LightHouse Music.  Bayer is Musician in Residence at American University where he directs the AU Jazz Band and teaches studio guitar and bass. Bayer has received grants and awards from National Endowment for the Arts, ASCAP, Prince George's Arts Council, Montgomery County Arts Council, Maryland Summer Institute for the Creative and Performing Arts, Loyola Composition Competition, and Bascom Little Fund. Bayer is a former faculty member of the Washington Conservatory.
 
Saxophonist Paul Carr has performed at venues including Blues Alley, Twins Jazz, Takoma Station, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Smithsonian Jazz Cafe, and Corcoran Gallery of Art. Carr's 1993 recorded debut as a leader on "PC10" was received with critical praise from the Washington Post, Houston Post, and USA Today, as well as DownBeat, Cadence, and JazzTimes magazines. Carr has performed at the White House for Presidents Clinton and Bush, as well as for the late King Hussein of Jordan.
 
Trumpeter Chris Battistone has performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Danny Gatton Band, as well as with performers including Ron Holloway, James Moody, Harry Connick Jr., Nancy Wilson, Maureen McGovern, Jack Jones, and Government Mule.
 
Pianist Bob Sykes has performed with notable jazz artists Debbie MacFarland, Nicky Ryan, Carter Jefferson, Ron Holloway, Danny Gatton, Marshall Keyes, and Pam Bricker.  Bob has played at major jazz venues in Washington DC and the Mid-Atlantic region such as Blues Alley, One Step Down, Lisner Auditorium, and the Carter Barron Amphitheater. 
 
Bassist Steve Novosel is heard on over 60 recordings. A jazz veteran, he has performed with many jazz greats including Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Clark Terry, and Sonny Rollins, and has accompanied many singers including Betty Carter, Anita O'Day, Roberta Flack, Joe Williams, Billy Eckstein, and Shirley Horn.
 
Drummer Dominic Smith has been a fixture on the DC jazz scene for the past 15 years.  He has performed with jazz notables such as Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern, James Williams, and Phil Woods, to name a few. He has recorded with dozens of DC area jazz musicians.
