Enjoy a one hour concert of American song
favorites from various genres - such as Spring by Dominick Argento, Vocalise by
Wilbur Chenoweth, Cantata by John Carter, Sure On This Shining Night by Samuel
Barber, Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael, Over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy,
Summertime by George Gershwin, and selections from The Ballad of Baby Doe by Douglas
Moore.
Soprano
Nancy Almquist has soloed with the Washington Cathedral Choral Society,
Washington Bach Consort, Hesperus, Folger
Consort,
Maryland
Choral Society, Prince
George's
Choral Society, and the New Century Singers. Nancy has
sung roles with Annapolis Opera, Opera Americana, The Other Opera
Company, Interact Theatre Company, and the Washington Savoyards. She has been a recitalist at venues including The
American Church in Paris,
Harmony Hall, National Archives, Hammond Harwood House, and
St.
John's College.
She has served as artist faculty at
Northern Virginia Community
College
and St. Mary's College
of Maryland.
She is Director of Music at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church
in Silver
Spring,
Maryland
and is on the faculty of the Washington Conservatory of Music.
Pianist
Jeffery Watson has appeared as soloist with the Honduran National Symphony,
the Pan American Symphony, the Rosario
(Argentina)
Chamber Orchestra, The Alexandria Symphony, and the Kennedy Center Opera House
Orchestra with the Kirov Ballet. Jeffery was pianist with the internationally
acclaimed tango quintet, QuinTango, whose
concerts included performances with the Wichita Symphony, Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa de las Artes (Mexico), and at Lincoln Center,
the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the U.S. Ambassador's Residence in
Buenos
Aires,
and the International Tango Festival in San Miguel de Allende,
Mexico. He was associate conductor for the
Kennedy Center's
award-winning production of Sunday in the
Park with George as part of the Center's 2002 Sondheim Festival and music
director and coach for the Maryland Opera Studio at the
University of
Maryland,
where he has directed productions of Fatal Song, Tale of
Two Cities, and
Noel & Cole. In 2009 he performed in
Croatia
for the International Conference of the College Music Society and was guest
artist at the Fairbanks (AK) summer music
festival. Jeffery is
Music Director of the Bowen McCauley Dance Company and is on the faculty of the Washington Conservatory of Music.

Washington Conservatory faculty members, cellist Drew Owen and pianist Jeffery
Watson, will continue the Conservatory's series of free concerts
presented in the recital room of the new site of the Washington Conservatory at
Glen Echo Park. This one hour concert, appropriate for children and adults, will
include Sonata in F Major by Vivaldi, Fantasy Pieces by Schumann, Sonata for
cello and piano by Debussy, and Three Tangos by Piazzolla.

Who We Are
The Washington Conservatory is a nationally accredited community music school that serves the greater Metropolitan DC and Bethesda area from two sites: Westmoreland Circle in Bethesda, MD (the border of the District of Columbia and Maryland) and in Glen Echo Park, in Glen Echo, MD. Exceptional international artist faculty. Children, teens, and adults. No audition required.
