Greetings!,

Have you ever been asked the question "You've got a great website... now what?"

It does bring to mind that old question about a tree falling in the forest.  If you have a great looking website that nobody sees, how great is it?

Coming soon will be the launch of Lewis Web Solutions.  This new venture combines our expertise in effective website design with the long-term benefits of internet marketing.  We'll still offer the same great website design services, but with a focus on long-term success for your business.

Now that sounds a lot like a tree falling.

BBB Announces Phishing Scam

The Better Business Bureau name is being used in a "phishing" scam.   The basis of this scam is that you would receive a notification from the BBB that a complaint was filed against you and your company.  These emails contain false email addresses and links with viruses that will shut down your system and steal your passwords.

If you receive an email regarding a complaint filed with the BBB, the best suggestion would be to not click the email links but to call the BBB of Maryland directly at (410)347-3990.  They will be able to confirm the validity of the complaint.

Visit the Maryland BBB website here.

Online Banner Ads for Small, Local Businesses: Why? How? Where?

Billions --- that's a "B" --- are spent on online advertising each month. That's good news for small business owners who serve local consumers.

Why Use Banner Advertising? This huge expenditure "continues to point to the mainstream acceptance of the medium" according to a recent report [by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PriceWaterhouseCoopers]. Lots of Harford County consumers are online everyday: 60,000+ homes and 75+% of adults are online. And, online advertising can cost-effectively zero-in on local consumers.

How Does Banner Advertising Work? Printed media must be repeatedly copied and physically distributed by the thousands to be effective for advertisers. An online banner ad can be electronically distributed to many local sources onetime and reach your target market 24/7. It can stand-alone or link to online information accessible by consumers anytime.

Where do Banner Ads Go? There are dozens of local online sources. Many local non-profit groups will gladly host your banner on their website for a nominal fee or in-kind consideration. There are also local for-profit online sources that charge for advertising.

Greater Edgewood Education Foundation, a non-profit, sponsors MyEdgewoodMD.com. A countywide website, HarfordNeighbors.net, is a for-profit operation.

Whether non-profit or for-profit, you'll want to consider each online source's target demographic and content in relation to your goals and budget.
