Greetings!
Hello! I hope that you are enjoying the glimpses of cooler weather that we've seen in the last few weeks. I know Fall's not here yet, but it's not too far off. With Fall, comes lots of activities and routines for many of us. The pace of things just speeds up. Often, there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day... With that in mind, it's my hope that this newsletter might be a resource when you do have 5, 10 or 15 minutes to take time for you.
In this month's newsletter, you'll find:
- Yoga for the Busy Person: Tips on finding time for yoga when life's busy.
- YogaXoga KC Happenings: YogaXoga teacher trainees, YogaXoga Free Class Week Sept 14th & 16th and specific class announcements for Covenant Chapel & Santa Marta.
- YogaXoga Blog posts on Calming Breathing Techniques, YogaXoga for the Back and Tree Pose Tips & Benefits.
- Wellness Junkie Blog posts on Breast Thermography, Protein Powders and Dry Brushing.
Are you looking for a past newsletter? We now have a newsletter archive page where you can access past newsletters for your reference.
Enjoy and be well,
Heidi Valenzuela, RYT

Yoga for the Busy Person
A little yoga goes a long way:
- You don't have to do an hour class to enjoy the benefits of yoga. If you just have 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes before your head hits the pillow, that's better than no yoga at all.
- When you're rushed for time, focus on deep, relaxing breaths and gentle stretches that feel good in the body such as Pelvic Tilt, Knees to Chest and Cat & Cow.
- Incorporate your favorite things about yoga into your day; it doesn't have to just happen in class. Take time for deep breathing before a work meeting, do Sunflowers in the morning to energize or stretch the hips with Butterfly after a long day.
- For those of you fairly new to YogaXoga, you may not know that we have a DVD that's great for the busy person, Vemystified Yoga Volume 2, with three 20 minute segments tailored for Neck & Shoulders, Lower Back and Before Bed. DVDs are available online of through your YogaXoga instructor. More Info
Make a date with yourself (or a friend):
- Put your yoga time on the calendar like any other appointment. If your days are too crazy for an hour class, schedule a 20 minute block of time for a mental break from your day. Take that time to disconnect from your computer and phone.
- If I'm meeting someone somewhere, it usually increases the odds that I'll go. Carry this into your yoga time. Invite a friend to your favorite class to help you both get there (our free classes are Sept 14 & 16). Some of my clients make a date for tea or drinks after yoga as a fun reward.
- I have several client couples who make their yoga time part of their couple time together. What a great way to do something healthy with someone you love.
Accept the "out of balance" times:
- Sometimes we just have seasons where we're out-of-balance - new baby, new job, busy family time. Your "yoga time" might be those 5 minutes of whisper breathing in the midst of your busyness of work deadlines or screaming toddlers. That's ok...accept and be present in your new normal.
- Don't beat yourself up with that list of "I should be...." Be right where you are. Take and deep breath and enjoy it.

YogaXoga KC Happenings:
Our First YogaXoga Teacher Training Workshops Completed this Summer
Heidi with Sally, Kate & Kathy | In July and August we held YogaXoga teacher training workshops as we plan to expand our class offerings in late 2010 and 2011. In your classes you may have started to see these lovely faces as Sally King, Kate Ranstrom and Kathy White fill in for me from time to time and do some co-teaching as well.
If you have a suggested new venue or area of the KC metro where you think YogaXoga should offer a class, just let us know. Right now, we're thinking Midtown KC, Lee's Summit and South Leawood...but we're open to your ideas!
