Yoga Breathing & Poses for Seasonal Allergies
Alternate Nostril Breath helps to clear sinuses and nasal passages. I practice this breath after I've been outside and start to feel the effects of my seasonal allergies.
Alternate Nostril Breathing: Sit
comfortably and take a few breaths in and out through the nose.
To begin, gently close your right nostril, leaving the left one open.
[It works best to use one hand to close your nostril, using your ring
finger and thumb] Inhale through the left nostril, then close the left
nostril and open the right, exhaling through the right side. Inhale on
the right side, then close the right nostril, open the left and exhale
through the left side. Continue this same pattern on each side for 8-10
more breaths. If at any time, you feel light-headed or dizzy, stop and
breathe normally.
Whenever we lift the chest and expand the upper back, we improve breathing and relieve nasal and lung congestion. Before practicing Cobra, be sure and warm up the body with Cat & Cow, Flowing Bridge, Downward Dog-Plank-Childs Pose Flow. Other poses to try: Standing Camel, Seated Chest Expansion & Bridge
Cobra: Lying on your stomach, place your hands on either side of your chest. Allow the tops of your feet to rest toward the floor. Keeping your gaze toward the floor, inhale and lift your head, neck and upper back from the mat. Exhale as you release back to the floor. Avoid using your arm strength to press or lift higher, allow the back to lift to its own comfortable height. Repeat 4-6 times and rest.

Nasal Rinsing: We wash other parts of our bodies...doesn't it make sense that we should wash our noses too? I've written about the benefits of nasal rinsing in a few posts listed below. Whether you choose the NeilMed product or a neti pot, the end result is the same. Nasal rinsing helps clear the nasal passages and sinuses especially when the air is filled with pollen and other allergens.
NeilMed Nasal Rinse Rhino Horn for Nasal Cleansing
NAET: Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique or NAET is something I've been exploring for the last year or so. I've seen remarkable improvements in my overall health, and specifically in the area of environmental/seasonal allergies and food intolerances. To find a NAET practitioner near you, go towww.naet.com.
