Greetings!,
When Jane Parker ran for the Board of Supervisor four years ago, her top priorities were clear: making county government more responsive, transparent and effective.
That's exactly what she has done, and she has a lot to show for it. Her successes have benefitted the 4th District, and all of Monterey County.
Here are just some of Jane Parker's accomplishments:
- Jane worked with the Community Alliance for Safety and Peace (CASP) on a comprehensive strategy to reduce youth violence. The City of Salinas has earned a place as one of just six cities nationwide for special federal assistance on its peace effort. Jane is working to make sure the CASP model is rolled out county-wide.
- Jane led the way in successfully opposing the planned business park and MST bus yard at Whispering Oaks on Fort Ord, thereby saving thousands of oak trees and valuable open space.
- Jane improved accountability by insuring performance measures are in place for every County department, holding department heads accountable for their actions.
- Jane improved transparency, including such simple, but new, measures as having Board packets put online, and publishing the County's main phone number on the County's website.
- Jane has called upon the newly established Economic Development Committee to promote new, high quality job opportunities by working strategically across the region.
Jane builds support for ideas that make sense, bringing together economic growth, stewardship of the environment, and healthy communities.
The Monterey Herald got it right in endorsing Jane's re-election: "While the political opposition tries to portray her as a knee-jerk no vote on development, Parker has shown through her votes and her arguments that she is a practical environmentalist. She understands the need for growth and jobs, but unlike some of her critics, she isn't interested in allowing leapfrog development or creating temporary, low-paying jobs."
Jane Parker is demonstrating that one person -- together with the community -- can make a very big difference in the workings of local government, and in the lives of all Monterey County residents.
If you live in the 4th supervisorial district, we urge you to vote for Jane Parker for Supervisor in the June 5 election.
