Monterey County Democratic Party Chair Vinz Koller said that the Center would serve as a conduit for Monterey County residents to stay informed and to "not let our government slip away from us as it has in the last eight year." Koller said that opening the Center 10 days before the inauguration of Barack Obama as tthe 44th President of the United States is no coincidence.
"It turned out that we were following a path very close to the one
followed by the Obama campaign," said Vinz Koller, Chair of the Monterey County Democratic Party. "Those paths converge in
our Center for Change."
The Center for Change in Monterey will serve as a hub for the kind of grassroots- and technology-driven campaigning that led to Democratic victories in the November election and as a local link to the change agenda of the Obama administration. The center will be focused on advancing Democratic ideals and values, and identify and empower new leaders in our community. It will offer voter forums, candidate trainings and volunteer opportunities. It will also offer an internship program for future Democratic leaders.
The inaugural day for the Center ended with a panel discussion by Obama campaign veterans Spencer Critchley and Zach Friend, who offered their inside accounts of the presidential
campaign, complete with visuals from Spencer's work as Obama's campaign photographer in Michigan and Colorado.
