A Time for Thanks
Hello Monterey County Democrats,
Over the last few months I have often written to you with requests for your time and your money. Your responses have surpassed my expectations every time and I am thankful for that.
Today - on Thanksgiving Day - I am writing to you to share with you what else I am thankful for.
I am thankful that together we turned hope into a reality.
I am thankful that we will have exactly the leadership that our country needs in a time of crisis and that is already starting to transform our country.
I am thankful for the fact that so many of our local candidates are willing to serve and were successful in their campaigns.
I am grateful for the fact that this victory is shared by more people than ever before because so many of you had an active part in it. Let me give you just a couple of examples:
- Californians made more than 10 million phone calls to help turn out the vote in Swing States - more than all other States combined. More than 60,000 of those calls came from Monterey County.
- Californians contributed more than a fifth of the budget of the Obama campaign.
- More than three million volunteers helped out in the Obama campaign nationwide and more than 1500 helped us win locally.
- We added 9000 new Democrats in Monterey County since the last election.
I am grateful that as a result we will truly have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
I am most grateful of all that in this election hope and unity won over division and fear. We all know that when that happens, we are on the right track.
