Outlook 2003 & 2007: Sorting

Sort messages using multiple columns

Inbox messages can be quickly sorted by clicking the column heading you wish to sort by. However, you can also sort your Inbox messages using multiple criterion.

What if you wanted to group all messages sent to you from MOSTraining and within those messages you further wanted to sort by the Subject line? Read on for the simple instructions.

Instructions: sort your Inbox by using multiple columns:
  1. Click the column heading of your first sort criterion (example: FROM)
  2. Hold down the SHIFT key and click the column heading of your next sorting criterion (example: SUBJECT)

The end result is that all emails will be grouped together by the FROM field and within the FROM group the emails will be further sorted by the SUBJECT field.

Note:
You can continue to sort by additional columns and each additional criterion will sort within the prior criterion. You can also sort the columns in your other mail folder views in the exact same way.
