| Let's Find a Match! |
Rev. Bill Green, former Associate Pastor at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian, has a life-threatening illness. It is a blood disorder. Bill says that many of you have asked how you can help him. He is asking for your donation to the National Marrow Donor Program. A bone marrow transplant is a life changing treatment, but for many people, such as Bill, a transplant is the only hope for a cure. Bill has recently found that his siblings are not a match.
Saxe Gotha will be planning a bone marrow donor drive in early October. The process includes a medical questionnaire and a cheek swab (painless) for tissue matching. Donors need to be between the ages of 18 to 60 and be in good health. There is a registration fee of $52 to the NMDP for tissue matching. If you are not eligible to be a donor - Saxe Gotha is asking that you sponsor a donor. If you are selected to become a donor... 100 percent of the medical charges are covered by the NMDP. The NMDP is the largest registry of bone marrow donors. 11 million potential donors are listed on the Registry. 6000 people search the registry daily. 300 people per month receive transplants. Many are still waiting. Your assistance is greatly needed in promoting the drive, volunteering with registration and collection of samples. If you need more information and/or would like to help, Please call Alice Markowitz at 803-609-1817 or email at: alice.markowitz@btitelecom.net. Alice is a member of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, SC. For more information on the National Marrow Donor Program visit the web site at www.marrow.org |

| Trinity Sudan Committee Updates |
|
Bill Andress, Moderator of the Trinity Sudan Committee, regularly sends out advocacy updates of the situation in Sudan. If you are not receiving these but would like to, contact BillAndress@ureach.com. You may not be aware of the scope of what Trinity Presbytery is doing through our ministry. Some of the exciting things:
1. The Presbyterian Church of Sudan, which was split geographically by the war, has merged.
2. We have sent an education mission worker to Southern Sudan for three years. She just completed her first year.
3. We have constructed a school at Korway-Atar.
4. In just under two years, the clinic at Akobo has been transformed into a 36 bed hospital with a full time doctor and staff of nurses. It now has some electricity as well. A joint Trinity-VIMM team will return in 2009 for its third visit. Last week I heard from the doctor there. He is Sudanese and Presbyterian; his father was a Presbyterian pastor there. Dr. Tut is motivated to remain in Akobo, and we very much want to keep him there.
5. There is an syphilis problem in Pibor of epidemic proportions. The Trinity-VIMM team will visit Pibor to treat the people early next year.
6. As a result of a major gift by an individual, we have funds and seek to build three schools this winter (dry season). We have a proposal for one in Leer which we are negotiating. Others are possible in Boma and Lekuangole.
7. We have begun a program of advocacy on behalf of the women of Sudan and are seeking to get PW to support it. If you think it would be of interest, the committee would be happy to come to your church to discuss their ministry with your Sunday School Class or any group which might be interested. Thank you for your generous support of our ministry and the people of Southern Sudan. Contact Bill Andress at BillAndress@ureach.com or 951-3025
