Willington Presbyterian Church Member Designs Habitat Garden |
Willington, SC now has a beautiful new gazebo surrounded by a Carolina Fence Garden. And Mike Dorn, Clerk of Session of Willington Presbyterian Church can take credit for the garden's design and implementation! In the picture above, you can see Willington Presbyterian in the background. The gazebo and garden sit right beside the highway that goes through the town. This proximity to so much pavement posed some planting hurdles. But Mike, inspired by his Environmental Science class that he was taking at Limestone University, used his knowledge to overcome the less-than-perfect conditions.
The garden qualifies not only as a Carolina Fence Garden - one that incorporates a fence, blue granite (the state stone), Yellow Jessamine (state flower), a birdhouse for Carolina Wrens, and flowers to attract our state butterfly, the Tiger Swallowtail - but also it is a certified wildlife habitat, providing the necessary shelter, food, water and a place to raise young. The gazebo and garden were dedicated during a ceremony recently by Rev. Sara Covin Juengst. And as you can see, not only will the town benefit, but the bees are truly enjoying the sunflowers that this beautiful spot provides. Well done Mike!

This event is sponsored by the Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA). Registration is $40/person and includes lunch. > Why your church logo is important, and why people expect to see one. Learn how to have one on a budget. > How to create a website strategy, including what people want to see on your church website. > How your ministry organizers affect attendance even before promotion begins. > What's emerging in communication, especially through on-line networking and text-messaging. > Why the tried-and-true newsletter remains relevant. > How to improve communication among staff. In addition, Scott will offer a few 'learning stations,' providing an opportunity for you to network with communication professionals in a casual Q&A format. Click here to download the brochure and registration form. This is an excellent opportunity for those churches who do not have a website or for those looking to improve an existing one. | Seamstresses Needed! |

Can you sew simple valences and curtains? Do you have a heart for helping others? Then the presbytery-wide mission team to Pearlington, Mississippi needs you! During mission trips walls get painted, porches reconstructed, flooring laid - but often the "finishing touches" such as curtains and valences are left undone. As we all know, such simple additions can make a house feel like a "home". There are many of us that are not able to lift heavy things, climb ladders or stoop and bend. So here's a chance for those creative (but physically challenged) folks to make a difference in a family's life! If you can help in this way, please call Tommy Stallings, mission team coordinator, in Columbia at 803-331-8062 or email him:tommystallings@hotmail.com.
The trip will be from September 28 - October 4, 2008. Remember that scholarships are available through the presbytery office!
