Iowa Desperately Needing Help |
PDA has received a notice from the Presbytery of East Iowa of an urgent need for volunteers in Iowa. The muck out is only 10-15% complete, and only one team of ten is scheduled for this week. The clock is running on these untreated homes, as the mold is advancing rapidly with the hot, humid weather. If you can help, please contact the PDA Call Center at (866) 732-6121 to register your team.
A call has also been put out for a professional that could help analyze and give advice to shore up several small, single family homes that have some structural issues. The need is for a structural engineer, architect or builder with experience in shoring up or replacing foundation members and sagging framing members. They are NOT looking for someone to produce a certified set of plans, just someone that can give them guidance in doing some remedial construction. They have 4 homes, at this time, that need attention. They are viewing this as a one-day time commitment, so if you have the needed skills and you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stan Tate, site coordinator for Oakville, Iowa, at stantate2@iowatelecom.net.
PDA is looking for two more specialized volunteers: a home inspector and also someone to answer the phones, make appointments and help keep records.
You may contact Stan if you can offer assistance with these specific needs. |

News & Reviews from the Resource Center |
In the midst of summer sometimes our enthusiasm, energy and ideas can wane. Thoughtful Christian to the rescue! Check out this movie offered by TC for adult study. Lars and the Real Girl explores both grief and mourning and the impact on a person and a community when the rituals for mourning are delayed.
Does your church have "new Christians"...those who have embraced Christianity recently? This study, Bible Basic Study Pack, answers some of the questions that new Christians have...such as "When and why was the Bible written?', "Content of the Bible", "Which Bible should I buy", "Divine Inspiration and the Word of God" - are just a few.
Looking forward to the Fall (and cooler weather!), TC will have a new study, available October 1 - "Figures in the New Testament" study pack. Six lessons will cover the following: Peter, Mary and Martha, James -brother of Jesus, Priscilla, Lazarus, and Mary, mother of Jesus. Click here to read more. |

"Continuing the Call:
Once again, The Alban Institute has produced a wonderful article. This piece deals with clergy and laity alike - and how, when we reach retirement age, our assumptions about our "call" can be confusing. Please click here to read this informative article by Paul C. Clayton.
