Thornwell Home Receives Grant

PW logo

This past week, the Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church (USA) approved a grant request in the amount of $20,282, for the purpose of upgrading the Thornwell Home for Children Dental Clinic.

"We are thankful for the ministry of the Presbyterian Women," says Nancy Lindeman, VP for Resource Development/Public Relations at Thornwell Home for Children. "Over the years, the women of the Presbyterian Church have been faithful supporters of our children. Literally hundreds of children's lives have been touched by their generosity."

Along with the approval of Thornwell's grant, the Creative Ministries Offering Committee approved
grants totaling $983,194 from the 2006 Thank Offering of Presbyterian Women. Forty-nine projects received grants; 16 in the United States and 33 internationally.

Plans for improving the Thornwell campus dental clinic include upgrades to the dental chair, installation of a new oral x-ray machine, as well as the purchase of new stools and other equipment.

BOP Creates New Member Advocate Post

The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has created a new member advocate position under the Medical Plan, effective April 1, 2008.

The Board of Pensions recognizes that navigating the complexities of our third-party providers, especially those for healthcare, can be a daunting experience for members of the Benefits Plan. With this new position, the Board will help Plan members through difficult situations arising out of administration of the Medical Plan.

The new member advocate position will be filled by Ms. Annette Donald, who has many years of service with the Board of Pensions and is knowledgeable about the Benefits Plan and its relevant administrative processes. In her new role, Ms. Donald will help members understand the process for obtaining needed care, assist in communicating with third-party providers (e.g., Highmark, Express Scripts, and CareAllies) and other Board staff, and help to resolve any bureaucratic issues that might arise.

For additional information, please visit www.pensions.org.
