Day Trip Idea |
Looking for a day trip for your church group? How about one oriented towards Presbyterian history? Consider a trip to the small village of Willington in McCormick County. Willington is named for the Willington Academy, founded in 1804 by Presbyterian minister, Dr. Moses Waddel, which became the most outstanding school in S. C. before the Civil War. Only five miles away is the site of the last Huguenot settlement in S. C. (and the only one in the upstate), "New Bordeaux." The commercial buildings of the town are being restored and at present house The Willington History Center, The Willington Bookshop and an African American Cultural Center.
Your group will receive a brief presentation on Willington's unique history in the History Center, a visit to the Bookshop next door (a booklover's paradise with over 17,000 books at bargain prices, whose proceeds go towards the restoration project), and lunch at "The Taste of Thai", an excellent moderately priced Thai restaurant across the street from the Bookshop. If you have time, side trips to the Huguenot site of worship and the site of the Willington Academy can be provided.
Willington is located less than two hours from any church in our Presbytery. For further information or to make reservations, contact Rev. Sara Juengst, sarandan@wctel.net or call 864-391-2218.

Easter Reflections |
Easter Reflections
With OUR EYES we see The beauty of Easter as the earth awakens once more...
With OUR EARS we hear The birds sing sweetly to tell us Spring again is here...
With OUR HANDS we pick the golden daffodils and the fragrant hyacinths...
But only with OUR HEARTS can we feel the MIRACLE of GOD'S LOVE which redeems all men...
And only with OUR SOUL can we make our 'pilgrimage to God' and inherit His Easter Gift of ETERNAL LIFE.

| One Great Hour of Sharing |
 |
Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God's love with people experiencing need. Our gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives, and work together to strengthen their families and communities.
Recognizing that the hope we have in Christ is lived out in our hope for one another, we respond with gifts that help our sisters and brothers around the world find the hope for a brighter future.
Most congregations receive the offering on Easter Sunday, Palm Sunday, or both, while many receive it throughout Lent.

Power of Forgiveness |
 |
On Easter Sunday night, March 23rd, at 8:00 p.m., PBS will air "The Power of Forgiveness". This documentary combines character-driven stories of dramatic transgressions with those of more commonplace annoyances, examining the role that forgiveness can play in alleviating the resulting anger and grief and the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that come with forgiveness. These stories assure us that there is hope if we are open to seeking it and accepting it.
This is a excellent program that will cause you to reflect on the issues that need your forgiveness and what "not forgiving" may be costing you.
Check your local listing for the PBS station that serves your area. And for more about this powerful documentary, please click here. |
